I’m mostly concerned about Disney announcing cessation of physical media production, starting with Australia. They already put out minimal physical media products world-wide, as they’ve let it be known for a few years now that they don’t see a future with it.

While physical media sales overall have certainly declined, it’s a guaranteed money maker with an installed base in the millions. I find their policy regarding this very foolish, and terrible for consumers considering Disney owns Fox properties, so it’s not just Disney that we can’t buy 4k and Bluray products from.

Disney has always had a deathgrip on their IPs regarding the home video market, that is nothing new, but since they own other studios now,it really sucks. And now they are officially saying they are getting out of home video all together.

IMHO, Disney wants a monthly streaming fee for old content. I can't explain how it sells, but for whatever reason many people pay a monthly fee to Apple music to listen to decades old songs that they could just buy once (or have already bought decades ago).

For example, I listen to a lot of Christian music, over half of it with a rock bent, and much of it from the 70's to 90's. In other words, I already bought those CDs decades ago (after having previously bought them as tapes but wore them out LOL). As the music devices changed I converted much of those CD tracks into digital files (at first WMA's, then later MP3's) and now listen to them on my iPhone (either bluetoothed or wire tethered to a speaker system like the car stereo). I don't pay a monthly fee to listen to music that I already bought. What little new music I listen to I buy once, add it to my playlists, and listen to for free after that like I do my older music. But I'm weird. A lot of people who listen to music from their phone or tablet pay a monthly fee for some reason even if they listen to the same classics that haven't changed in decades. Disney wants a business model like that for their video content and wants everybody to pay monthly to Disney+ (and/or Hulu since they're now a majority owner of that too when they bought out Fox).

Your post nailed it, over and over.

Talk about your woke -- Tim Cook, head of Apple, bats for the LGBTXYZ team. If those companies merge, the Disney parks and all future movies will be Groomin' Central 24/7/365.

Yes, Big Tech and the Entertainment & Media corporations are pushing us towards actual fascism, with government and corporations dictating, inculcating and enforcing all thought and action.

Let Disney die. But we need to preserve an ecosystem that allows independent and heterodox voices to find a market. <.I>

Amen to that...
