Federal workers have been authorized to leave work early as severe weather is expected to hit the Washington, D.C., area and parts of the Northeast region of the country.
In a news release Monday, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) said federal employees located in the D.C. area were authorized to leave their workplaces two hours earlier than expected, and that all employees must evacuate their buildings “no later than 3:00 at which time Federal offices are closed.”
Telework employees are also expected to receive weather and safety leave for the amount required for them to commute back home, as remote workers “are expected to continue working and generally may not receive weather and safety leave.”

Odd timing.
So, they are getting an inch of rain.
Wimps.
Sad.
Any excuse to fleece the taxpayer.
We've become such utter wimps as a nation.
Used to get these a lot while working at JB Andrews, but that was for snow. This just seems wimpy.

There was a Tornado warning just west of us near Wytheville Va but I think we will get missed.
This happens all the time. How is it news?
I'm going to hunker down until somebody tells me it is safe to go outside again.
There is also a tornado watch until 9 p.m. tonight. My eye doctor’s office called me to come in earlier than my original appointment today, to avoid the bad weather. A roofing contractor I know cancelled his jobs today. Didn’t want his guys blown off a roof or struck by lightning. So far it’s nice and sunny at 4 p.m., but there are some dark clouds on the fringe. I think our Baltimore t-storm is supposed to hit about 7 p.m.
We’re on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Looks bright here, but some cloud cover is rolling in.
Since a large percentage of federal workers work from home :60% saying they expect to remain in their current posture for at least another six months”, are they suppose to head to their mommies’ basements or just hunker down and watch TikTok til the all clear is given?
Climate Lock downs are a coming , another ridiculous government move
It was devastating last summer when I got soaked by pop-up thunderstorm “Bruce”......
