GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called Juneteenth a “useless” holiday during a campaign event with voters in Iowa on Saturday.
Ramaswamy’s remarks, first reported by NBC News, come after he celebrated the holiday earlier this year on June 19, saying it is about honoring how far the country has come and how people can advance through hard work, commitment and dedication. He called for a range of proposals concerning the country’s elections on Saturday, including that all voting happen on one day, having all paper ballots and declaring Election Day a national holiday instead of one of the “useless” ones.

Election day, tax day and end-of-slavery day should all be held on the same date.

Just don’t make it a Federal holiday. Otherwise let those who wish to celebrate it do so.
True. Slavery was ended based on the 13th amendment, not based on union troops reaching Texas and spreading the news about the Emancipation Proclamation.

That’s a fair point. I just wish the holiday would emphasize that it was a Republican president who liberated slaves held by Democrats.

It’d be nice if blacks knew something about history and what the Emancipation Proclamation act actually was and what it accomplished. Instead, the left weaponizes the act and Juneteenth to pit races against each other and to erase history via replacing Independence Day with it.
Same with BHM. Ask any black person what portion of BH are they celebrating. They might say “MLK did good shit”. That’d be about it. Otherwise, again, BHM is being weaponized. As is Gay Pride Month.
Lincoln only freed slaves from states in armed rebellion with the USA with some exceptions listed.
I agree with him on this, however. I go even farther: "Juneteenth" is worse than useless. It's evil. Its purpose is to stir up race hatred. The same is true of "Black History Month" and the Michael ("martin luther") King holiday.
Away with them all!
Then why not call it 'Pomatix'day, or 'Mancipashun" day? You know..the day that slavery officially or technically ended.

I am not a big fan of Vivek, especially since he openly supported massive immigration for skilled foreign persons.
But, if the Political Left is assaulting Vivek, that means I will unconditionally support Vivek!

Shhhhh. At one time in his ‘career’ Joe 81millionvotes Biden bragged about Delaware almost being a part of the Confederacy. I think he was in the Old South courting votes.
I don’t have a problem with Texas having a state holiday on juneteenth. I have a real problem with making it a federal holiday. If they insist on having a federal holiday on that day, they should at least call it by its real name ... george floyd day.
Then at least, future generations will know the true, shallow reason for its inception.
