Good move for DeSantis, for both, as they will likely be the 2024 nominees and this gives both an independent forum separate from Biden and Trump to share their plans, criticism, etc.
Has Trump even commented on it yet? Usually he’s obsessed with all things DeSantis.
The key point here is that he is planning to do this in November! We just started August. DeSantis thinks he can make it through August and October?

You can forget about Newsome for next year, at least. He has been so totally dirtied by the Reedley incident he doesn’t dare peek out from under his rock. If he does, he has absolutely nothing to protect himself with the Chinese connection. And since he isn’t running for the California governorship next election, his words, he is taking himself out of circulation. By hitting the news now, all he is is a side show to deflect Biden’s problems.

He’ll run once and if Biden is out. But you are definitely right in that Newsom has skeletons that haven’t had national scrutiny. He’s an experienced but failing governor. Maybe he’ll blame state Democrats but he’s got a lot of explaining to do.
LOL! Trump has already publicly said that he doesn’t plan to debate anybody - rival GOPer or Dem - so he probably doesn’t want to call attention to DeSantis’ willingness to debate.
I wish Trump hadn’t spent months (and a lot of money) with personal attacks on DeSantis even before he was running, because Trump unnecessarily alienates people who might otherwise have been significant supporters. DeSantis hasn’t attacked Trump and probably just plans to ignore him as much as possible, but it’s unfortunate for all sides that Trump took the personal attack strategy from the very start.
