Ukraine and its supporters worry about losing control of the narrative

As Ukrainian troops wage a difficult fight against well-defended Russian forces in Ukraine, the government in Kyiv is waging a different kind of battle abroad, trying to shape how the world perceives its counteroffensive.

Ukrainian officials and their supporters say they are confident they will prevail on the battlefield in the end, but warn against what they see as unrealistic expectations in media coverage and commentaries that could create a misleading narrative suggesting it cannot and will not win.

“The two things that we keep asking our allies for are weapons and patience,” said Yuriy Sak, an adviser to Ukraine’s defense minister.

Although equipped with new U.S. and other Western-made weapons and gear, including tanks, longer-range missiles and artillery ammunition, Ukraine lacks air power and has encountered stiff resistance from the Russian forces who have planted hundreds of mines across the front line, set up anti-tank barriers and dug rows of defensive trenches.

Since the counteroffensive was launched in June, Ukraine has retaken about 241 square kilometers of territory in the country’s south and east, or less than 100 square miles, according to Hanna Maliar, the country’s deputy minister of defense.

They know the political mood in the hearts and minds of Americans determines their fate.

Which makes me wonder why they have not yet tried to cut a deal. The tide has shifted already.

“There is a danger that “there might be the narrative of stalemate or the narrative of a failed Ukrainian counteroffensive,” he said.”

“William Taylor, a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, said there’s a risk that overly gloomy conclusions about Ukraine’s prospects could become a “self-fulfilling prophecy.”

“If the perception gets out there that the Ukrainians can’t win, then we’re not going to provide them the stuff they need to win,” he said.”

We do what we can:)

If you fight a real war relying on "narratives", you are going to lose.

It’s a shame that our so-called “news” prostituted itself inot an apologetic shill for the EU propaganda.

Actual reporting on this matter would have been helpful.

Americans are done with this. No amount of lies and posturing is going to change that.

Without absolute censorship & control of all forms of media, this exposes the limitations of AI-centric propaganda.

However, ‘they’ are determined to achieve just that.

We shall see what transpires next year re the election...

Yes. Here’s how we solve this: put Vladimir Putin and Zelensky in the same room so they can fight it out between themselves and not have to sacrifice any more lives.

If it wasn't for the media, and the compliant war cheerleaders, Zelensky would have been chased out of town on a rail a year ago. Now that the battlefield losses can't be brushed away with nonsense headlines, reality is beginning to seep thru.

The only thing we should be giving to Ukraine is Troops, and they should be comprised of 100% relatives of every Elected and Appointed Public Servant in this country, the children, grand children, nieces and nephews of the ruling class exclusively.

My question is...”why a narrative”? Why not just the facts and the truth? I don’t want a narrative but that’s all that politicians and the media want to give us.

I don’t care if half the Ukrainian army is gay and the other half Nazis and I don’t care what their losses are.

I will never support allowing the Commie Russians to invade a peaceful neighbor to take their land.

I've been saying that for two years. Cage fight. Give them knives. Locke them in. Then drop the cage in the deepest part of the ocean. Problem solved.

There is no deal to be cut here. Ukrainians know Democrats and the WEF EU want a frozen conflict ASAP and back to business as almost usual with Putin’s Russia. New Iran nuke deal brokered by Putin, Russian energy supplying the WEF EU again, etc. Ukrainian insistence on a sovereign nation unencumbered by genocidal Russian fascism is holding up the globalist Anti American agenda.

They have unrealistic expectations, that they can restore their 2013 borders, or that we will get in it. It looks like they are stuck in an attritional battle with a much larger enemy.
