Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who has railed against the nation’s record-high debt, on Thursday called Fitch Ratings’ downgrade of the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA+ a “historic failure of leadership by both political parties and the executive branch.”

Manchin, who is flirting with a presidential run as a third-party candidate backed by the group No Labels, has regularly criticized what he views as the lack of bipartisan cooperation in Washington.

He blamed the nation’s latest credit downgrade on the inability of Republicans and Democrats in Congress and President Biden to make significant progress in addressing the nation’s $32 trillion debt.

There was nothing more thoroughly "bipartisan" than the deal a couple of months ago to eliminate the debt ceiling without making any meaningful changes in Federal spending.

I don't know about anyone else, but if I have a prospective client who has $33 trillion in debt on a credit card with no limit, his credit rating with me is about ZZZ- ... and I'll only work for him if he pays his entire fee up front -- in cash.

He’s done a horrible job on the economy, driving us into record inflation by his reckless spending then tries to take “credit” for things he had nothing to do with ....or things that aren’t true.

But there’s only so much you can spin, and there’s no getting away from the facts.....now some of those facts may just have caught up to Joe Biden.

He represents a state that has more white people on welfare than any place on the planet outside Great Britain or Ukraine. If anyone tried to actually control spending in Washington, he'd be out of a job.
