Tony Vaughn’s favorite part about delivering mail is also what opens him up to danger when he’s on the job. “We’re out in the community, we’re part of the community. We take pride and sometimes personal ownership of these routes. We see kids grow up, and meet neighbors. And the neighbors look out for us,” Vaughn said.
Right now, they could really use people looking out for them.
After serving as a carrier for almost 40 years, Vaughn is now the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ local branch. He’s worried for his colleagues.
“Letter carriers are getting robbed at gunpoint. Some physically assaulted. Just this past Wednesday, a letter carrier was robbed of his vehicle, his personal items,” Vaughn said.
The alarming trend started with thieves targeting mail inside the collection boxes. But now they’re also targeting mail carriers themselves. […]
Vaughn is always telling carriers to keep their heads on a swivel and to leave an area whenever they feel safe. But he also wants justice.
“It is a federal offense, and we want arrests and prosecutions,” Vaughn said. …

Well, just “red line” those areas where the robberies are occurring. People can come down to the post office and pick up their mail, until they get sick of that and demand police start doing their jobs again.
Oh yeah, Federal Offense
Brilliant Robbery!!
Unions have a bad rep, and for good reason. But they are often the only people willing to tell you the truth about a situation.
Notice that the guy sounding the alarm here is a union leader. Do you think that the postmaster general or any other big shot would be so frank? Not a chance.
Robbing a mailman can get you 10 years at Club Fed.I wonder how many punks understand that?

There are around 1300 postal inspectors (post office police). When you think about it, that’s not a whole lot given they have to cover the entire country. Plus they have to do package investigations, etc. besides hunting down thieves.
Perhaps Biden could assign some of those new armed IRS agents to help out here. I kid, of course. Those IRS agents are better used terrorizing American taxpayers.
All they deliver these days are Flyers
Good, maybe they’ll steal all the fake absentee ballots they’re carrying.
Two mail carriers robbed at gunpoint (one shot and injured) in Mayor Let’s Go Brandon’s Windy City Wonderland of Chicago yesterday. Let’s make sure we don’t demonize the misguided yutes and remember, if you don’t live there you have no right to comment.
When was the last time that has ever happened? They just call the cops.
We’re constantly told the Post Office doesn’t need or receive federal funding. They shouldn’t need special laws or federal status? Or something.
USPS makes big bucks delivering junk mail. I found out the postal service was being paid to deliver a copy of the weekly paper, whether the recipient wanted it or not. Our mail boxes for the building are all downstairs in the main hall. We all have our own keys for our mailboxes. The mailman opens up two sets of drop-down sections so he can load the boxes without having to open each mailbox individually. The boxes aren't very big, but the stupid postal carrier would roll up the paper once a week, and shove it into each mailbox. It didn't matter if there was other mail inside, he'd simply shove the paper in, even if doing so, crushed the mail that was already in there. It also regularly occurred that when I got mail prescriptions, if the newspaper was already in my mailbox, taking up all the space, he'd leave the scripts unsecured, outside, and below my box.
I put a note on my mailbox that I didn't want any newspapers, and to please not put them in my mailbox. When that didn't stop the stupidity, I went to my post office, and told them not to put the newspapers in my mailbox. The postal supervisor told me "the carriers were required to do it." When I told him that I would file a complaint over my medications being left unsecured in a front hall, because the newspapers were taking priority, the stupidity finally stopped. Now they leave a pile of weekly newspapers in the bin below the mailboxes that nobody reads, and those copies eventually make it onto the stack of older issues tossed on the floor in a corner of the front hall.
Another symptom of the Great Unleashing of 2020.
Cosmic karma. The leftist postal service is more concerned with delivering fake ballots than the mail. No surprise that people are shooting at them. The morons have violated the post office oath.
Our 2 local grocery chains stopped them in April.
The root cause of the issue is never addressed. We all know that it’s not those muh white supremacist redneck MAGA Trump voters robbing mail carriers, or else the Army would have descended into their neighborhoods already.
