Ed Rollins Quits DeSantis: 'Flawed Candidate'

Republican campaign strategist Ed Rollins is turning away from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' 2024 presidential campaign, calling DeSantis a "flawed candidate" in a recent Rolling Stone interview.

"I don't think it's the campaign's fault at all; it's his," Rollins told the publication. "I think he's been a very flawed candidate. I know some of the people around him, and some of them are good, talented people.

"But every time he opens his mouth, he has a tendency to — shall we say — think out-loud, and he clearly doesn't understand the game. … When you get into these culture wars the way that he has, the vast majority of people don't understand what they are."

Rollins, an adviser who has worked in several high-profile races, once served as the chief political strategist for the Ready for Ron PAC supporting DeSantis' bid for the White House.

Name one candidate Ed Rollins hasn’t quit. He has all the qualities of a dog except loyalty. 😆

suspect that DeSantis did not understand that he was pushed into running early by the Unipart to destroy him as a viable option in 2028 by those planning there run in 2028. actually, a good thing because it showed him to not be a candidate that. can make a strategic decision. when looking at who is pushed forward to run in the primaries you have to look 2028 because if trump wins that means big Question mark for 2028 that will create a lot of the same scenario that there was in 2016 when trump got the nomination. this election primary should be looked at as setting up individuals for the 2028 election. Rons 2024 run makes it real doubtful that he will even be looked at 2028 as viable. my prediction is that 2028 will be the neo-cons big push to reestablish Control of the republican party and an attempted push by the neocons to rid itself of maga populism politicians while keeping the democrat voters who were attracted by the populism and changed party affiliation because of trumps populist message.

Rollins is a beltway “native” who lives off the machine. He is typical of that crowd. I sure Ron had waited he had the wind at his back and was in a great position to get even stronger, such a waste

Steve Cortes chose poorly. You won’t be seeing him on Bannon’s War Room show any time soon.

DeSantis has reached his Peter principle peak. He’s good as a state governor. He’s not ready for the national stage. Can you imagine him flopping around like this as president?

Team, every workday I’m giving you 30 minutes to ask me tough questions.

If I get tripped up, we will work to fix the problem.

Did Trump hold elected federal office before he became President?

DeSantis was a Congressman. DeSantis knows both state and federal issues.

His being in Congress is just another reason he shouldn’t be president.

Interesting. I think old school hits the nail.

Today’s political and social environment resembles nothing I can remember since Nixon. Unless the average republican/conservative/independent/libertarian/etc. can come to an understanding of the corrupt nature of politics today we will lose the republic.

All I can say is when the facts change in politics, we on the right better be prepared to adapt our approach or be assimilated.

Too many political consultants with little goatees.

Ron may be better off without one.

We are always in peril of Conservatism being corrupted by populism, whether on “national security” grounds as in the immediate post-911 era, or on economic grounds, as in the post Obama era, or now since 2020 on legitimate concerns regarding China’s CCP or the deep state, or the collusuon of the deep state, big tech and big media. In rgead to the later we are in peril of “solutions” being either too dependent on executive action - which will merely strengthen the executive, or in Congress creating more regulatory over reach, and all to please populist trends.

We need a Conservative congress that will not had the executive more powers, but will in fact greatly reduce the powers and over reach of the administrative state. Somehow I do not see Trump really joining us in that, with him focused too much on just who wuns the administrative state, as if that alone will correct things, when it will only provide temporary relief.

And yet, somehow DeSantis post Durham Report, that confirmed in govt speak that Trump has been treated like a traitor to the nation, said ‘I am going to run against Trump’...

He’s not very good at reading the room full of MAGA voting Deplorables who are not ready to move on from Trump..

To be fair, DeSantis wasn’t the only deaf, dumb, blind politician to jump in after the Durham Report.
Pence did too.

>> I instantly loathed him when he announced. It’s a matter of character.

Yes, that.

In spite of RdS (and the other dwarves) announcing, President Trump has 60% of the R’s support.

But if RdS had remained LOYAL and SUPPORTIVE (character traits!) the Trump+DeSantis would by now have unified 85% of the R’s. The side of righteousness would be a juggernaut relative to the insanity and corruption of the Left. And the clown car pipsqueaks (Christie, Hutchison, Pence, Whatshername, etc.) would be irrelevant, fading noise.

But no. He had to let his ego, unmatched by any real skill in the political arena, get the best of him. So sad.

There’s a tendency to assume anyone is a “deep stater” who advocates a different viewpoint or holds to a perspective that doesn’t align with our own. Perhaps believing some of these people have just made mistakes in judgment that have served the purposes of the deep state might be more reasonable and defensible. I’m not optimistic about any of the current candidates, but I am quite certain I’m not part of the Deep State.

Rollins was good enough for Ronald Reagan.

Anybody could have run Reagan's 1984 campaign against Walter Mondale and won.
