Ukraine retakes 15 sq km in south, east in past week

Ukrainian forces have recaptured nearly 15 square km (5.8 square miles) of land from Russian troops in the east and south over the past week during their counteroffensive, a senior defence official said on Monday.

Kyiv's forces have now retaken 204.7 sq km in the south since they launched a major push against Russian forces early last month, Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said on the Telegram messaging app.

Ukrainian officials have reported slow, steady progress in the counteroffensive, retaking a string of villages and advancing on the flanks of the eastern city of Bakhmut, which Russian forces captured in May after months of battles.

I see this war as so different, from a tactical and equipment point of view, that I don’t see your ‘textbook defense’ as realistic. The Russian Federation is loosing more men and equipment in defense than Ukraine is loosing in offensive operations. That by itself suggests a alteration of the expected.

So at 4500 dead per square mile then all of the 20% of the Ukraine held by the Russians, roughly 47000 mi.², will be liberated with only 211 million Ukrainians.

Also, wars never end with all of a people dead, or all of its military personnel dead. End of wars can be negotiated when a side decides it's had enough, and form all indications, the Ukrainians will never surrender, and ti's the Russians that have suffered more dead personnel and more military equipment lost, and more of its wealth lost on a lost cause. Russia cannot and will not win the war.

So, every inch retaken by Ukraine should be an indication to Russia that they are not going to succeed with THEIR INVASION. Notice, THEIR INVASION, and not a Ukrainian initiation of hostilities between the two.

I don't know about you, but, when a country invades another, it's the invading force that is in the wrong, logically. Do you know what logic is?

- Ukraine's "big push" followed weeks of exercising an alleged "artillery advantage" used to soften Russian defenses;

- Western analysts used the same flawed process to assess Ukraine's artillery capabilities they used to assess the supposed likelihood NATO armor would cut through Russian defenses;

- The US rushing M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine by fall will make no difference on the battlefield, they are too few in number and no more capable than the German Leopard 2 tanks Ukraine has used in a so-far failed offensive;

- Russian defenses are layered specifically to absorb Ukrainian advances and preserve Russian manpower and equipment as they move back to successive lines of defenses;
