Russia's Medvedev: We'd Have to Use a Nuclear Weapon if Ukrainian Offensive Was a Success
US News ^ | 7/30/2023 | Andrew Osborn - Reuters

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who has sometimes raised the spectre of a nuclear conflict over Ukraine, said on Sunday that Moscow would have to use a nuclear weapon if Kyiv's ongoing counter-offensive was a success.

Medvedev, who is deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, a body chaired by President Vladimir Putin, said in a message on his official social media accounts that Russia would be forced to fall back on its own nuclear doctrine in such a scenario.

"Imagine if the.. offensive, which is backed by NATO, was a success and they tore off a part of our land then we would be forced to use a nuclear weapon according to the rules of a decree from the president of Russia.

"There would simply be no other option. So our enemies should pray for our warriors' (success). They are making sure that a global nuclear fire is not ignited," he said.

“This guy has a “thing” for nukes. He should be hospitalized.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Every time he opens his mouth, it’s nuke this, nuke that.
He is copycatting Russia’s propaganda TV news outlets.
They talk about nuking the West nearly every day since over a year now.

“Ukraine never had an independent nuclear weapons arsenal, or control over these weapons, but agreed to remove former Soviet weapons stationed on its territory. In 1992, Ukraine signed the Lisbon Protocol and it joined the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as a non-nuclear weapon state in 1994.”

Oh noes, Russia is actually saying they will engage in self defense!

Holding land seized by the invasion of another country is not self-defense.

ICAN is entitled to their opinion, which is wrong.

Of all the armaments belonging to the defunct USSR, why did only nuclear weapons solely belong to Russia?

Russia did possess the security codes for using nukes in the Ukraine, and that’s all. Ukraine could have legally kept the actual nukes and reprogrammed them for potential use.

That’s why Russia agreed to the Budapest memorandum, which they have most certainly violated.

“ICAN is entitled to their opinion, which is wrong.”

Those are facts they gave

“Of all the armaments belonging to the defunct USSR, why did only nuclear weapons solely belong to Russia?”

Because those were Russian weapons? Turkey does not own nukes just because the US has them stationed there.

“Ukraine could have legally kept the actual nukes and reprogrammed them for potential use.”

No, because they belonged to Russia, not Ukraine

“That’s why Russia agreed to the Budapest memorandum, which they have most certainly violated.”

And NATO and Ukraine violated all their agreements in the last few decades so why should Russia care?

“Nice lie you got there, Ukraine NEVER owned nukes, Russia had their own nuclear weapons on Ukraine soil which they then removed.”

Well, at least you are admitting that the Soviet Union never had any nukes; but that the nukes were, in fact, Russia’s. In other words, no other Soviet “republic” had nukes: They were all Russian nukes, and many of them had been placed by Russia within the borders of other Soviet “republics.” Which shows that Russia WAS the Soviet Union, and vice versa (even if pro-Russia FReepers vehemently try to deny that).

“Oh noes, Russia is actually saying they will engage in self defense!”

What self-defense? Ukraine isn’t invading Russia. But Russia IS invading Ukraine.

The US threatened to bomb Cuba for hosting Soviet weapons so why can’t Russia attack Ukraine for hosting hostile weapons as well?
