Tim Scott rebukes 2024 GOP rival Ron DeSantis over Florida curriculum on slavery

Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) rebuked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a rival for the GOP presidential nomination, on Thursday over new state standards on how Black history is taught in Florida schools, saying “there is no silver lining” in slavery.

The social studies standards, which DeSantis has defended, include teaching middle-schoolers that “slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”
Scott, the only Black Republican member of the U.S. Senate, strongly pushed back on that idea while speaking to reporters on the campaign trail in Ankeny, Iowa.

Scott is angling for the WaPo endorsement as the only gay black liberal in the GOP primary.

When a black Republican plays the race card, he loses all credibility.

"How can you be so obtuse?"

It's a deliberate misreading and he's piling on. If I ever had a shred of support for Scott, he lost it.

Being black always comes first.

How did Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice vote in 2008?

White simps on FR keep tripping over themselves to vote for any minority that can speak English properly.
Next up, Byron Donalds.

Same people think MTG and Boebert are intelligent.

Can’t deny facts. The have been many articles (some confiscated) that describe United States black slaves as better off than slaves in other countries at the time and since. Can’t deny facts. A slave machinist on a farm in the US knew more than any african slave in africa at the time.

Great, now they have the GOP dividing us on racial issues, perfect for the Dem strategy.

What? Current numbers controlled the border under Trump. Because he made Mexico control the border. And they did pay for it.

Not to mention a very important fact: Many, many Europeans came to America as indentured servants as a way of covering the cost of the trip.

I understand there is a big difference, but the result today is the same: the progeny of the slaves are just as free as are the progeny of those early colonists. All are American citizens.

Many people around the world desire to have that claim as is witnessed at our Southern Border every day.

A black man co-wrote the curriculum, to give better balance to the issue of slavery.

Scott just lost himself any chance at the nomination.

He evidently never read “Up From Slavery,” so he can’t begin to talk about Black History.

I’m tired of being an old honkey who knows more about black history than practically all blacks.

The Co-Writer Stated that slaves learned TRADES that helped them when they were freed to be able to support themselves.

The other thing is they would go back to Africa if they had really missed it. They got there own country, LIBERIA!

How IS Liberia doing today??
