Well they could add more coal.... oops we don’t use coal to produce electricity, then turn on more natural gas... oops we don’t use natural gas to produce electricity, then open the valves on the dam to spin the generators...oops we torn out dams producing electricity, then we could pull out the rods at the nuclear power plant.... what? We did so much swimming even temp of 100 + wouldn't hamper our picnic. Mom always made us wait a half hour or so before going into the water again though. She always knew a day of hard play like that would put us all to bed early as we sure were bushed once home. Fortunately our home was a 5 bedroom Victorian house that would stay cool when opened up at night.
Today is brutal at 101 real feel and plenty of humidity. Went for a Big Mac lunch and noted the air sucks the wind out of you.

That's true, having a lake / pond / pool / stream to jump into makes at least a 20 degree difference. Or a garden hose to spray about. A little shade and a breeze and you're in business. :-)
Today we had clear skies and a Heat Index of 110 deg. I was working some outside, but took breaks every half hour, and hit my custom lemonade hard. At 11 pm our heat index was still 92 deg. "Air you can wear" (but who wants to?) And this is mild compared to further southwest, tho' Dallas, TX, is not all that much worse (Heat Index of 95 @ 11 pm.)
