That makes two of us. The one that stayed at my home was involved in rewriting their constitution back when. She said they had many proposals, the best one imitating our own US Constitution.
Without getting to in depth, they were pressured “ from above” to drop many parts, notably the right to bear arms. She stated the EU told them no loans ( which they eventually defaulted on) if the drafts were even presented. Her stories of the government and financial sector’s corruption were hideous…..
Enough for her to leave Ukraine and never return.

Ukraine started the war with 600,000 troops, roughly the size of the army we faced in Vietnam. Russia started with 200,000.
So, yes, it was going to take a while to destroy that army. But, 350,000 causalities later, the Ukraine military can't even launch a counteroffensive the reaches the frontline of Russian defense. In fact, the Russians are the ones gaining.
The Russians are not advancing. Duh.

If Ukraine leaders had an ounce of common sense, they would not be clamoring for NATO membership sharing hundreds of miles of border with Putin’s Russia.
Ukraine should have learned from Mexico how to behave sharing borders with a nuclear armed major power. Mexico is prospering. Ukraine is unmitigated disaster.

For what it is worth, Macgregor has been predicting that Ukraine is on the ropes and that the war is almost over, almost since the start of the war. Someday he might be right.
