[Ukrainian] Counteroffensive may stall due to lack of weapons and training – WSJ
Yahoo News ^

When Ukraine launched a counteroffensive in the spring of this year, the Western military knew that Kyiv did not have enough training and weapons – from shells to combat aircraft – to dislodge Russian troops. However, they hoped that Ukrainian courage and ingenuity would win.

"They haven’t. Deep and deadly minefields, extensive fortifications and Russian air power have combined to largely block significant advances by Ukrainian troops. Instead, the campaign risks descending into a stalemate with the potential to burn through lives and equipment without a major shift in momentum." the WSJ says.

As the likelihood of any large-scale Ukrainian breakthrough decreases this year, Washington and its allies face the disturbing prospect of a longer war requiring huge new investments in modern weapons and more training to give Kyiv a chance to win.

The publication recalls that US President Joe Biden will participate in the elections in the fall of 2024. According to many people in Washington, the White House's concern about the impact of the war on the election campaign is prompting increasing caution about the amount of support that can be offered to Kyiv.

At the same time, it is noted that American indecision contrasts with a change of views in Europe, where in recent months, more and more leaders have been inclined to believe that Ukraine must win the conflict and Russia must lose to ensure the security of the continent.

But the European military does not have enough resources to provide Ukraine with everything it needs to dislodge the occupation forces from about 20% of the country's territory they control. Western diplomats say that European leaders are likely to significantly increase support for Kyiv if they feel the reluctance of the United States.

What kind of military plan is 'We know you don't have enough training and weapons, but we're hoping you're resourceful and plucky enough to win anyway'?

That was the hopeless plan. It also didn't help to announce the counteroffensive three months in advance. It gave the Russians three months to prepare for it.

Putin is doing to the west what Reagan did to the USSR: Making them bleed by spending so much money on arms that they become bankrupt

Ukraine is not going to have the manpower to kick the Russians out of 20% of their country. Settle for a cease fire and declare victory.

Russia is just a gas station. Lousy untrained, ill equipped, unmotivated soldiers, commanded by a Hitlarian dictator…. And all of NATO can’t seem to get them to use their nukes or surrender.

That has to be our plan. Nothing else makes sense. Nobody is doing anything to talk peace.

But why should Russia settle for it without reaching objectives?

Europe is in a sad state. A continent of 600 million people, with plenty of brainpower and resources, can't even engage, never mind defeat, a country with 150 million people and a GDP the size of Galapagos Islands. I remember the British historian, John Keegan, wrote in one of his books, "A country without a military cannot exist."

I don’t know what everyone is worried about considering Tony Blinken said on CNN this weekend that Ukraine had retaken 50% of all territory previously occupied by Russia and the counteroffensive was going slow but has been effective

**************
Since the war began.

The Russians are portrayed as a bunch of bumbling idiots & homicidal maniacs, while the Ukrainians are humane geniuses & brilliant tacticians according to the Anglo-American media.

However, apparently stupid, drunk, no missiles, no artillery shells, no electronic components, bad economy, “Ivan” is good at defending land that is full of minefields.

“Who knew?”

The Economist interviewed the head of the Ukrainian military months ago. He said he knew that he didn’t have what he needed to win the counter offensive, and that he knew NATO didn’t have it to give him. This was many, many wasted lives ago.
Earlier this year Zelensky said something to the effect, “We’re doing well but frankly, we cannot win without cutting edge aircraft....” and he never got said aircraft.

In the meantime the shills have been creating a fake ‘horse race’ atmosphere, egging people on to believe it’s a close battle and ‘plucky Ukraine’ is making a comeback, always making a ‘comeback’. The whole time it’s been known they simply don’t have the weapons/aircraft etc. to win regardless of how many men they throw in the meat grinder.

And Biden uses such ‘fake news’ of fake Ukrainian gains to justify sending billions more tax payer dollars to that bloody bombed out hole in the ground in the Ukraine....

Though I do agree, what does peace look like, would you be willing to say give Alaska to the Russians or Chinese in the event of war for “peace”?

Would giving parts of ukraine to Russia be any better than “peace in our time” the west and chamberlain did with Hitler.

Would something like this just embolden future russian aggression or better yet Chinese aggression?

The slow walk of weapons esp aircraft has probably doomed any complete liberation of ukraine lands at least in the short to medium time, barring any kind of Russian collapse( military or politically)this will end up being some kind of stalemate.

Putins and Russian federation most likely depend on some kind of face saving resolution, and to that end I don’t see where Putin won’t keep throwing men and equipment to die and be destroyed to save his ass.

As a Ukrainian I can only imagine how torn they are, their country has been ravaged, and tens of thousands killed and wounded, and millions displaced.

A bit like saying well dolf we will let you keep Norway, Denmark and Belgium if you cal it off
No harm no foul

Sucks overall

The Ukes launched their war in 2014
NATO and the US had 8 years to resurrect manufacturing for shells and hardware.
They did neither

NATO and US went all in on sanctions and socila media narrative.
That blew up in their face.

Russia is methodically working to their objective, eliminate the Uke armed forces
