Most members of the US women’s soccer team stayed silent during the national anthem before its World Cup opener Friday against newcomers Vietnam — who passionately belted their nation’s tune.
The majority of the reigning women’s World Cup champion team stared stoically ahead as the “Star Spangled Banner” blasted across New Zealand’s Eden Park arena.
Only five of the 11 players who stood on the field for the anthem — with young, aspiring players standing before them — placed their hands over their hearts, while their six teammates kept their digits clasped behind their backs

Only three USWNT players — Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher and Lindsey Horan — sang along with the hundreds of American supporters watching in the stands.
Comparatively, members of World Cup debutant Vietnam emphatically crooned their national song

The women’s USWNT team has a complicated history with the national anthem.

Forward Megan Rapinoe has continuously knelt during “The “Star-Spangled Banner” following NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s protest in 2016.
Rapinoe, who is playing in her last World Cup before retiring and was the first woman to kneel in the practice, claimed in the weeks before her team’s 2019 World Cup win that she would “never put my hand over my heart.”

I’ve always stood near attention with hand on heart. I don’t sing.
What motivates them to play for a Nation they hold in such contempt, while others from around the world, all the places people want to escape, are so proud?
Maybe they were staring “stoically ahead” is because they are still butthurt to losing to teenage boys.
Rapinoe: Can’t Understand Normal Thinking
This is the crowd that got a huge salary raise because they whined about it, not because they deserved it.
Megan Rapinoe is part of this bunch and we know she hates the USA.
So do you think I’m going to have the slightest interest in how this team plays?
I think we should send a few men to try out for the club. Maybe people would watch?
I usually don’t sing it—I don’t have a great voice—but if I do, I usually sing the third verse, the “racist” one that drives the wokesters up the wall.
Megan Rapinoe was embraced by the individual who calls himself “president” and he gave her the Medal of Freedom Award. Just what did this nasty, hateful loudmouth do to earn the Medal of Freedom Award, even if it was given by a man who has been on the take for millions from foreign interests for years??
Why then does she play for a team that represents the USA? Could it be it offers better rewards she would get than from playing for some other nation's team, or not playing at all?
Go Vietnam!
Their behavior is 100% in line with current ruling class thinking.
Lol, good. I have a terrible voice.
The designation of US should be pulled from the team.
Well I ‘spect their bass and tenor voices wouldn’t sound that good anyway.
I hold utter contempt for these overly privileged crybabies. I can only hope they are beaten by a team that actually is happy to represent their country.
Narcissism.
Further destroying and tainting their brand. They will never be popular in this country and will continue to rely on the men’s teams to carry them financially. Some people would call this fraud.
I see Zach Ertz’ wife and two other players sang with hand over heart. They’re the courageous ones.
It’s a leadership problem: “If you don’t stand respectfully with your right hand over your heart during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner, you’re gone immediately, no discussion, no debate. Singing along is optional. If you disagree, see me now, and I’ll give you your walking papers.”
I hope they lose up front. Get rid of the anti American lesbians and I’ll root for them.
If you ever get a chance to watch 6 Nations Rugby games, notice how the players bellow out their national anthems. (Except maybe for Ireland which plays three anthems because NI is included on the team).
