SEATTLE (AP) — With ropes, a harness, a hammock and a bucket pulley system, masked activists in Seattle have taken residence in the branches of an old, thick cedar tree to prevent it from being cut down to make way for new homes.
The protest on a private lot is the latest episode highlighting tensions behind tree policy in Seattle as climate change increases temperatures and urban canopy decreases.
Its age is not known, but activists have estimated it could be as much as 200 years old. The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe is seeking to have the tree preserved for its archaeological significance, saying that Native Americans shaped its branches generations ago to distinguish it as a trail marker.
The protesters have declined to give their names, citing concerns about retaliation. They said they support new housing, but not at the expense of the tree.
“We have to win this tree. We have to win because Luma is setting the tone for every other tree that’s under threat in Seattle,” one said from the tree. “We have to show that we mean business.”

Sounds like a two-fer. Fire up the chainsaw.
They sound raciss.
I never understood why they don’t just cut down the trees with them in it? Give them one warning, then begin cutting.
The same people will protest any restrictions on abortion!
They went to “college” to learn this “skill” and now they want the taxpayers to pay THEIR stupid college loans. These kids are despicable idiots.
It’s always white women. The troublemakers.
They are Clear-cutting the Amazon Rainforest for Balsa Wood for the inner scaffolding for Wind Turbines.
They are Clear-cutting the Indonesian Rainforest so they can strip mine nickle for EV batteries.
The Germans are now getting 7% of their power from Bio-Mass which is cutting and burning German forests. (And they define it as Renewable.)
The Greens need to get their Stuff together!
Cut the tree down with them in it. Call it carbon neutral. These idiots emit greenhouse gases, the tree consumes greenhouse gases. Seems like a fair trade to make the world a better place.
These people don’t work.
Cut the branches off. Then they’d have nowhere to roost.
This tactic was used by their parents back in the 70’s. Same reasoning and will hopefully result in same outcome.( TIMBER!!)
Lol... my exact first thought.
Get the honey bucket brigade ready
Easy solution, much smarter than sitting in an ugly, pollen-producing, old cedar tree. Offer the land owner fair compensation to buy the land along with fair compensation for lost economic value for foregoing development of the land. But of course they won’t do it. Who would pay for that? The tree-huggers only want a solution someone else (the landowner in this case) pays for.
They can live in the homes of the people living in the tree.
I hear the announced bag limit is two. Tastes kinda like spotted owl.
Time to cut down the Snoqualmie Casino, which is of no "archaeological significance." This would clarify their real political position.

Well, because of the culture we live in, you aren’t allowed to hurt anyone even if they set themselves up for it. There was a case where a bunch of idiots blocked a road for climate change or whatever. But it was dark. They were on the blind side of a hill and a truck ran over and killed (at least one.) The driver suffered at the hands of the legal system even though he obviously didn’t do it on purpose. I vaguely recall he got off, but it was expensive to him. Also, as a law professor told my class. If you run into someone or you shoot them, make darned certain they’re dead. Because an injured person will be favored by the jury, and they’ll own everything you had. That’s just the way it is.
