Ahead of the opening weekend for Oppenheimer and Barbie, independent film Sound of Freedom has cemented its status as a surprise summer hit after surging past $100 million at the box office.
Since its July 4 release date, the Angel Studios thriller about child sex trafficking has upended industry expectations, raking in nearly seven times its $14.5 million budget in North American ticket sales.
Last weekend, it comfortably outpaced pricey blockbusters like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and on Wednesday it edged past Tom Cruise's new Mission: Impossible installment in single-day ticket sales.
But in a country split by endless culture wars, Sound of Freedom has also proven divisive, earning lavish praise from conservatives and a screening at Donald Trump's Bedminster golf club, while drawing criticism from liberals who insist it is QAnon propaganda.
In a statement on Thursday, Utah-based Angel Studios said the movie had sold more than 8.9 million tickets, for a domestic box office haul topping $100 million.

Glad to see that it is a success.
Both mission and sound are success. Mission will hit 100 million tomorrow and did so much quicker than sound. Both will be successes.
But what about Barbie?

I got to see it this past week - good movie, held my attention. The best movie I saw this week, though, was Oppenheimer - probably the best movie Christopher Nolan has made, going back to Memento.
It’s good to raise awareness, but I’m very suspicious of timing and who funded. I think it’ll be used for a push for CBDC and chips. Take away cash and track the kids, safety first and all that. I’ve already heard rumblings about this in the military circles.
They didnt even get into the part about the infants and the Panda Eyes, some people couldnt handle that.
Interesting fact— the script was finished in 2015. Filming complete in 2018. No way possible that QAnon influenced this film in the slightest.

Yep. The fact that this movie was completed FIVE YEARS before being released in theaters speaks volumes.
Yesterday’s gate was down from the previous Thursday (3.7M vs. 4.5M), but it was the #1 movie of the day.
