Yes - all of the above.
Although it is mainly a “first world” problem. Mostly white kids of middle income and above. Most kids have underlying mental issues such as on the spectrum for autism, anxiety, OCD, etc. Some have been sexually assaulted.
It seems that most kids are seeking a group to belong to as well as to be “special”. (Sounds like kids all through-out history). The trans-cult sucks them in when they have trouble fitting in elsewhere. Most of it is done online where it easier to get sucked into the pretend world of being the opposite sex.
There was a movie about the trans-cult and the horrors of it, which AMC removed without showing it. It was produced proudly by California left-coast liberals! It is still going to be released on line at some point.

Since the movie was released there has been a huge effort to slow down the trans surgeries in Sweden. Sweden had been at the forefront for a long time, and now is dialing it back.
The movie talks about the huge increase in kids wanting it, how easy it is for them to get started on hormones (ask for it, it is given to them), etc. The doctors are clueless. I see now that the “Tavistok Clinic” (Sweden’s gender clinic that processed hundreds (thousands?) of people is getting sued.
