Speculation continues to mount over the fate of American soldier Travis King after he fled into North Korean territory earlier this week — with the US revealing the hermit kingdom has gone silent about his well-being and fate.

From being used as a propaganda tool to being propped up as a potential bargaining chip, the guesses about North Korea’s next steps vary widely given there’s little precedent for King’s situation, experts and former diplomats say.

The 23-year-old, who is the first US soldier in decades to defect to North Korea, bolted across the border on Tuesday during a civilian tour of the tightly controlled Demilitarized Zone between the two Koreas.

During the years we had an active Draft for the military, this guy probably would not have been accepted due to mental and behavioral compulsions. Some young men outgrow that stage in life, while others never do. What you see is what you’ll keep getting, regardless of age.

Things would have to be very bad in the U.S. Army to defect to North Korea, right?

I mean the guy is just a Pvt. 2nd Class Cavalry Scout.

Perplexing.

He was not allowed on tours. The tour came after his escape. He escaped from the South Korean air terminal where his escort was not legally allowed.

“A black man in North Korea. It will not end well for him.”

It won’t end the way he expected, that much is certain.

Blacks, as an oppressed minority, can’t be racist, so there’s nothing to see here. Pls move along...

Police placed Pvt. Travis King in the backseat of their patrol car where he shouted expletives and insults against Koreans, the Korean army, and the Korean police, the ruling said.

I move to send not Dennis Rodman, but Brittney Griner, to North Korea, to negotiate Travis King’s release.

should he ever make it back to the USA, I’ll have to admit that he’ll have some big time “street cred” after surviving Nork torture techniques.

If i recall correctly, the Norks used to make the US POW’s memorize the Nork loyalty of Oath or something like that — in Korean.

I think they’ze gonna find out real quick when trying to “teach” the young private, that they for sure won’t want any part of diversity, equity and inclusion. As soon as they realize that he’s dumber then a doorbell, they’ll trade him for something.
