Sorry. No sympathy, if he does not do his due diligence in researching the brand/model/class of vehicle he wants.
Are the usual sources of information on vehicles providing unbiased, realistic reviews on EVs so due diligence can be done? Or are they filled with enviro-propaganda pushing electric vehicles as not only inevitable, but desirable?

Make that decision and figure it out. Propaganda pushers are not very bright, so they can't hide it. If this is the case, do not buy it.
Sounds pretty simple to me.

Good point... and you guessed right.
All the “enthusiast” magazines - Car & Driver, Road & Track etc. - were relentlessly pushing EVs in their mags and social media, despite enthusiasts hating it. They also went woke and green... taking idiotic stances on many topics.
They can hardly give away their hardcopy magazines anymore, and they get wrecked in social media.
