Minneapolis leaders proposing electric and gas fee hikes to combat climate change

Minneapolis leaders want to increase fees on residential and business electric and natural gas bills to help pay for the city's plan to reduce its contribution to climate change.

The envisioned fee hikes would generate between $8 million and $10 million annually to pay for weatherizing homes, installing solar panels and other programs — resulting in a tripling of the city's current spending on those items, Mayor Jacob Frey and a host of officials announced Wednesday.

The plan would hike the city's franchise fee, found on every gas and electric bill as a percentage of the bill. The City Council and the mayor have sole power over those fees; no action by the Public Utilities Commission or other body is required to raise them.

The gas and electricity fee hike proposal announced Wednesday, dubbed the Climate Legacy Initiative, is at the core of how to pay for the ambitious climate plan.

The Minn gas and electric customers ought to hire Antifa to represent their opinions. Antifa would be down their smashing windows and destroying the cars in the employee parking lots. The big wigs would be scared to leave work and too scared to stay. Yup, Antifa would be cheaper.

Minneapolis wants to increase fees on residential and business electric and natural gas bills to pay for the plan to reduce the city's contribution to climate change.

Let me see if I can figure this out...

They (the government) want everybody to pay more for utilities, so the government can use less..? Now that's a tough one... (?)

Raising the cost of nrg will solve the problem.

Driving an EV will solve the problem.

Getting rid of cows will solve the problem.

Gretta Thunberg will solve the problem.

The “Green New Deal” will solve the problem.

No more gas stoves will solve the problem.

Eating bugs will solve the problem.

“Re-imagining” will solve the problem.

Ending fossil fuels will solve the problem.

The sheeple in Minneapolis will happily reelect them once again. Tax the hell out of them...they deserve it.

The climate is a force of nature, nothing humans do can affect it. Period. These “scientists” claiming otherwise are being used to transfer wealth to unworthy pockets.

Being from Minnesota, these people best represent the “frog in boiling water”. If their “leaders” tell them this is a good plan they willingly pay any amount, vote in the same losers, and are happy to do it.

Yes, since the marxists implemented ranked choice voting (ranked choice cheating), there will never be another “free and honest” election in Minneapolis.
I saw this coming 14 years ago, sold my home there, and moved out of the 7 county metro area. Best move I’ve ever made, except for moving to a free southeastern state, in 2022.

To help the climate, they should at least triple the cost of heating the average home in Minneapolis. They should get what they voted for.

Meanwhile, the crime rate in Minneapolis is out of control. Especially since they decide to punish officers and not criminals.
