US regulators on Tuesday announced a nationwide crackdown to stop companies from inundating people with billions of unwanted and illegal robocalls and telemarketing calls.
The crackdown, known as Operation Stop Scam Calls, involves the Federal Trade Commission and 101 other federal and state law enforcement authorities, including the attorneys general of all 50 states and Washington, DC.
More than 180 enforcement actions and initiatives are part of the initiative, including five that the FTC formally announced on Tuesday.
“We don’t know too many people out there who enjoy getting scam calls,” Samuel Levine, director of the FTC consumer protection bureau, told reporters. “A single unwanted call is one too many.”

It seems to be working. I’ve only gotten two so far today…
This is good. It’s very annoying. Because of it I ignore calls from an unrecognized number, which are sometimes legitimate.
I’d be OK with public flogging for the perps.
It’s hard to believe the government’s doing something to help all of us - and not just democrat ‘victim groups’. If this is happening - I’m thankful.
Like most people I only pick up the phone if I know who’s calling.

Nationwide?
We need to be hitting scam call centers in India with Davy Crockett type tac nukes.
Four for me, and counting.
They should pass a law or something. Oh wait……..
If only we had something like a “Do Not Call List”, but I’m probably dreaming.
Only accept calls from known contacts. Otherwise send it to voicemail. Problem solved
Hope this applies to scam political fund raising texts as well.
I’m a little disappointed. I hate robo calls but enjoy messing with live scam callers. I’m retired and can usually afford to spend a few amusing minutes driving them in circles.

Stop the POLITICIANS from making spam calls and that will cut the number real quick.
What about all these texts I get to Shirley and Frank telling me to give money to political scams?
I am like Trump’s best friend and DeSantis’. They text me all the time.
Does this mean I’m on my own regarding my car’s warranty?
I don’t answer my phone if I don’t recognize the number.
If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.
Everyone I want to hear from is in my contact list anyways, and I use a different ring tone for people.
If it’s someone I actually WANT to hear from, family and close friends, they get one.
I use another for people who are on my contact list in general like doctors and businesses or acquaintances.
Everything else is Verizon’s annoying default ringtone.
What about scam politicians? Are there any telemarketing companies dedicated to rooting out scam politicians?
No change where I am. Left the house at 10 AM to do errands, got back at 1:30 PM, six blank “messages” captured by my machine in 3-1/2 hours. And that doesn’t count the ones that drop out too quickly for the machine to capture them.
I’ve pretty much stopped receiving calls from telemarketers.
All calls not from someone in my contacts list go straight to voicemail. If it’s an important call from someone not in my contacts list, they will leave a message.
Phillipines also.
1. “GRANDMA-—I am in jail & I need $$$$$”——GOOD LUCK
