Donald Trump DOMINATES Turning Point USA straw poll
Florida Politics ^ | July 16, 2023 | Jacob Ogles

Nobody else polled outside single digits at the West Palm Beach conference. Ron DeSantis came in third. At a Turning Point USA conference, Donald Trump dominated a straw poll.

Nearly 86% of attendees for the Tuning Point Action conference in Florida supported the former President. Meanwhile, all other competitors posted in single digits. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, still widely viewed as Trump’s great competitor for the GOP nomination, came in third place.

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, a part-time Longboat Key resident, unapologetically cheered the survey results.

“The straw poll demonstrates that President Trump remains the single most dominant force among the conservative grassroots,” Kirk said. “All the attacks against him have seemingly made him even stronger and more popular among the conservative faithful.”

Trump’s presidential campaign noted this is the second straw poll at a major conservative conference where he came out on top. In March, Trump won a similar poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) with 62%. There, DeSantis showed up in second place, as the preference for 20% of CPAC attendees.

But the Turning Point straw poll proved far more lop-sided. In fact, the closest competitor behind Trump turned out to be Perry Johnson, a Michigan business who announced a longshot bid in March. Johnson received almost 8% of votes cast.

DeSantis, Governor of the state hosting the Turning Point conference, proved the favorite of just over 4% of attendees.

I wouldn’t trust that poll, myself.

Kirk has already endorsed Trump and called for the other candidates to drop out.

Even if the poll is correct, it was basically a Trump rally, anyway.

Like most of the other candidates, DeSantis participated in the “Family Leadership” event in Iowa, that Trump apparently wasn’t up for, probably because it required a Q/A with some actual questions from Tucker Carlson.

Raises the question…

Where are the DeSanctus rallies? Haley rallies, Vivek rallies, etc.

Yes and he refused to go to the one before this as well and went to a Club For Growth club meeting instead. He got 20% then, now is down to 4%. He keeps going lower and lower.

By the way, the poll was conducted by Trafalgar and is totally legit.

With an unknown Perry Johnson placing second place makes this highly suspect. I don’t disagree with President Trump results but the rest is BS

Could you please provide a link to verify the stated reason for President Trump not being in Iowa, was to avoid Tucker (I am good buddies with Hunter) Carlson?

I would not want to accuse you of bearing false witness…

Every FoxNews employee is forbidden to acknowledge this event even happened. BECAUSE TUCKER skillfully interviewed every ‘R’ candidate (and mopped the floor with a few). Censored by the Fox commies.

Trump has sat with Tucker before. The event didn’t play to his strengths. More than that it allowed the other candidates a chance to break out or flame out which is a strange strategy if you want to win.

Trump may not be in it to win it and only collecting funds for legal fights. If nothing else, he’s taking the air out of the room and suffering the slings and arrows giving others time to build their campaigns.

DeSantis had embarrassed himself with his campaign staff and strategy. He needs to pivot quickly before he’s the next JEB!

Trump said nice things about Vivek and Tim Scott (who did not do well at the Iowa event in my view) when asked about running mates among his rivals.

The liberals on that site make you believe it’s because they’re all upset about an absentee governor.

Sick of that whine. Because governors have been running for ages. As if it was a new thing, geesh.

Based on the attendance of candidates, it was an either/or choice. Most went to the Family Leadership event in Iowa, probably because Charlie Kirk already endorsed Trump and called for the others to drop out.

Trump went to Kirk’s event, as I said probably because he didn’t want to face Tucker’s questions, or be compared in real time to the other candidates. He wanted to go somewhere he was 100% safe, where he could tell his snake poem yet again and nobody care he has nothing new to offer.

The Tucker interviews were at the competing Family Leadership event in Iowa, that most candidates went to but Trump skipped, not this event by Charlie Kirk.
