Massive volcano could erupt IMMEDIATELY after enormous 7.2-magnitude earthquake [Alaska]

A massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake has increased the risk of a volcano in Alaska erupting imminently as the aviation level was raised to red.

The Shishaldin Volcano has been spewing great plumes of ash into the air since July 11, according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO).

A US Coast Guard overflight confirmed lava erupted the same day within the summit crater.

The latest data from the AVO, as of just before midnight on July 15, showed frequent explosion signals are being detected, with some explosions sending plumes of ash as high as 20,000 ft above sea level.

thaqt amount of lava leaving the earth and laying on top means one day soon there is going to be a hole underground the size of the surface lava... which means on day that void is going to cave it!! Iceland could be no more soon...

Many if not most of those 57 killed were geologists and seismologists studying the events, trying to learn more about volcanoes.

They were no less heroes than others lost in the pursuit of knowledge.

You can bet they were as serious about their studies as a heart attack is serious.

And that was just an average eruption; Mt. St. Helens’ Volcanic Explosivity Index was 5 out of 10. Each number is 10X the previous.

Lava moving across the landscape is typical of basalt volcanoes, like in Hawaii.

Most others send up a pyroclastic cloud which moves across land at 400mph or so. You can’t out run it.

Western & Alaskan volcanoes are of the later type.

The video was posted 40 years after it was a # 1 hit. I did some checking and there are other version with a lot more views, but of course none are contemporary to 1980.

The song appears to have had two titles. The other being

I could not find a refernce to it being a national hit.

Cool volcano video.

We must all pay for Gaia’s sinfulness as she pays for ours.

I recall my geology professor describing it as a wall of flaming ash, a hundred feet high, coming at you at the speed of sound.

It made a good impression.

“As a resident when that happened I recall only one person who voiced nonsense like that and he’s still on the mountain…in places and pieces. Harry Truman.”

I’m not interested in the history of Slavery in the US, but I have seen some videos from St. Helens. Seems that the volcano had THREATENED to blow months before it did - so the people who lived close by demanded access to their property.

Sad that they many had to die, but it’s a tough call between what might happen (a volcano blowing) and what is happening (being locked out from their property). I have trouble faulting anyone on that, since NO ONE can predict volcanoes with the degree of certainty needed to keep everyone safe, yet not locked out needlessly.
