The United States is too cautious to provide Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles, Chairman of the Board of Centre for Defense Strategies and former Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Zagorodnyuk said in an interview with Radio NV on July 14.
Zagorodnyuk said the United States has a "rather vague" strategy regarding escalation risks, the assessments of which are constantly changing.
"Moreover, we believe that they are too cautious, too conservative, too cautionary. But we have our position, and that is their position," Zagorodnyuk said.
He claims the Americans give Ukraine "rather vague explanations" about why they are not providing ATACMS.
"This issue, according to what is written in the press and as far as we know, lies directly with the administration of the White House, where it is under consideration," he said.
"We understand that the issue of escalation is still on the agenda. Politically they do not want that, (as) more and more politicians believe that they are in direct conflict with the Russian Federation. They are wary of the fact that ATACMS missiles will be used to strike targets on the territory of Russia and even in (the Ukrainian territory of) Crimea, in particular, those that we have already been struck. These are Russian military facilities in Crimea.”
Zagorodnyuk said that formally there is no ban on the use of U.S. weapons on the territory of Russian-occupied Crimea, such prohibitions exist only on the use of these weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Well, maybe later...
Dude, read the room.
Especially when the big guy staggering around only knows where he is when he finds a little girl's hair to sniff.
Next up, 30K to be called up…
The reason it is vague is because our initial war aim was the destruction of the Russian Federation and only lately have the adults woken up to the fact that they were pursuing total war far against the world's largest nuclear power while dedicating limited means for the limited objective of laundering 100's of billions into deepstate accounts.
Trying to win such a war has huge escalation risks and the only upside was a kickback from my BFFs bank account.
I would like it, for the writer to explain what the heck the acronym stads for, especially the ones that are military jargon. ATACMS, is Army tactical missle system.
ATACMS stands for “Army TACtical Missile System” according to Wikipedia.
Well done! Beat me with your own post!
Correct. It is disgusting to see their entitlement attitude. Meanwhile, the U.S. is depleting their weapon stocks faster than we can resupply, and we won't be able to defend our true allies let alone defend our shores. Biden abandoned Afghanistan; same needs to be done with Ukraine, if only he would stop trying to molest kids and use what's left of his mind.
A quick review of ATACMS history shows that this program was ended by the Army in 2007. Its now an old system, with basically the only option to hit stationary targets. It seems there is no way to manufacture new ATACMS since the program ended over 15 years ago and Lockheed has eliminated the production lines
So giving Ukraine this system would indeed allow the Ukrainians to hit targets in Russia (therefore, a huge escalation as the article points out) but once present missiles were used, it would be impossible to replace them, meaning they are useless as a long-term option.
The Ukraine is a truly vile polity. Insolent Banderites.
We will hit Russia with their own missiles. Zaluzhny
If we send ATACMS to Ukraine then Russia will get first hand information on the systems capabilities and VULNERABILITIES.
I find it disgusting that the Ukrainians seem to be operating from a position that they’re entitled to whatever weapons and other aid they ask for.
I think the problem is that Ukraine has been told privately that they will get everything as long as they keep trying to kill russians.
And they are now calling on those promises.
The picture of Zelensky at the NATO summit says it all. That's his wife in blue.

If he has any sense at all he will be defecting to Russia any day now.
At this point ATACMS doesn’t add a ton of functionality to Ukraine’s abilities. Its chief advantage is speed, when compared to the UK Storm Shadow. Shadows can be shot down though RU hasn’t been terribly successful at it.
Which brings up my favorite evergreen RU meme: what air defense doing?
But ATACMS would have been great to have last summer. Or over the winter. All we’re doing is sitting on them. Its almost cheaper to give them to Ukraine than maintain them as we’re doing now. No more are being built and our military will not touch the stock we have.
We need to bundle up Jake Sullivan into a rocket and launch it into the sun.
That’s absolutely unfair!
You ought to know: He ALSO know how to nibble little girl’s shoulders, so there: that’s _not_ all he knows. /s ;-)
Thanks for the correction. My bad.
All we want - or should want - is for RU to go home. That’s it. Ukraine has no designs on conquering Moscow. No one is calling for the dissolution of the Russian Federation. All Ukraine needs & wants is for, to paraphrase Mrs Colbert in “In the Heat of the Night”, is to leave the Russians to themselves.
We won the Cold War. And it was a conservative Republican president who for the first time postulated publicly that it would be a good thing if we won it and pursued policies to that end.
Russia (and it aint just Putin) wants to restart it. Its a good thing to cut them off and turn them back.
Except for all the ones calling for the dissolution of the Russian Federation.
