A Florida State Senator who represents Jacksonville is urging Gov. Ron DeSantis to call another special session on property insurance this summer with the single goal of creating savings and benefits for homeowners.
“Governor, come home and take care of your state. We all know that he’s running for president, but we have real problems, real issues, and the crisis with property insurance,” Davis said.
On average, Floridians are shelling out $6,000 a year on property insurance while the average price for the rest of America is about $1,700.
News4JAX Viewer Kelly Morgan is feeling the pinch and said her premium went from $1,800 to $6,600 dollars a year.
Farmers Insurance announced on Tuesday that it will no longer offer coverage to Floridians, and 18 other Florida property insurance companies are on a government watch list because of concerns over their financial health.

There may be a problem but you are supposed to ignore it. m’kay?
We KNOW you guys will vote for President Trump. It is ARZ, NV, PA, WI, GA, and mabey VA that will decide the Election.
This is not without reason. Look how much insurance companies are paying out due to hurricane damage. Even at those premiums some companies are pulling out because they can’t make a profit. The only other option would be for the State of Florida to subsidize insurance. Forcing people who don’t even own homes to pay the cost. And that is why it is called socialism. Well I guess there is also the federal option as they could force everyone in the united states to pony up for the cost of insurance in Florida by forcing insurance companies to charge everyone else more so that they can lower the costs in Florida. Mega socialism.
The insurance issue has been and continues to be problem #1. He has taken the chamber of commerce approach and its a huge failure. I support this Senator’s suggestion. Issue #2 is Everglades and natural resources. He is not getting it done. #3 The legislature recently approved using State $$$ to buy and preserve land. He denied it. Another huge mistake. And I say this as I believe he has overall been fantastic.
They passed insurance legislation. FL has an insurer of last resort.
What would you do to reduce rates?
We started going through this long ago. It didn’t just happen.
Insurers are dropping out in other states too.
Is this an example of fiddling while Rome burns?
These are the facts. Do they become lies when a Democrat draws attention to them?

Farmers Insurance said Tuesday that it will no longer offer coverage in Florida, ending home, auto and others policies in the state in a move that will affect tens of thousands of residents.
Farmers becomes the fourth major insurer to pull out of Florida in the past year, as the state’s insurance market looks increasingly precarious amid a growing threat from extreme weather.
I feel the same way about President Trump’s 1st Term picks, although he is going hard core now.
Leftist Democrats and facts are an oxymoron.
It is obviously real because many sources are reporting it.

How would DeSantis solve this? Insurance commissioner operates under FL law/regulatory statutes. Congress is not in session and Farmers is a private business worried about risk management. Do you actually think DeSantis has time travel capabilities where he needs to operate the device or whatever within the borders of Florida to fix what a lot broke a long time ago? This subsidy crap that made it difficult to manage property taxes occurred well before DeSantis started thinking about running for Congress. Grift created this problem among lawyers and the insurance companies. Homeowners also wanted subsidies that flew in the face of scarcity/economics. Reason why companies are fleeing and unless you pride yourself on being a Leninist, there is nothing you can do because the hole was dug a long time ago regarding the management in the cost of doing business (Property insurance) in Florida. It’s basically a lesson that there is no free lunch and you better watch the watchers because the watchers are corrupt as hell.
And since state farm pulled out of California, they supposedly have talked about stopping new policies or pulling out of the Florida market, too.
From observing politics since the Truman/Eisenhower era, I wish Ron would have stayed Gov. of FL then make his run in 2028,
ROFL!!!
figgers ...
They don’t want it fixed they just want to bitch.
I am not speaking of cabinet picks. I am speaking of ignoring or looking away from a problem that there is a real need to address.
That’s all.
Citizens Insurance makes case to state for double-digit rate hike
Citizens Property Insurance is run by the Florida government. You’ll only be eligible for a Citizens policy if you live in Florida and a private company won’t offer you coverage at a competitive rate.
Citizens offers basic coverage for an affordable price. But homeowners complain about its difficult customer service, especially during the claims process.
However, if Citizens is your only option, it’s better to be insured than uninsured.
Update: All homeowners who have Citizens Insurance will need to buy flood insurance by 2027. This requirement will roll out in stages. People living in a special flood hazard area (SFHA) will need flood insurance starting in 2023.
Thanks for posting that. It was rather informative and well presented.
My eyes did not glaze over and it easily could have considering the subject matter.
Leftist articles have been used to attack Gov. DeSantis by some here. The left lies about President Trump and the lie about Govenor DeSantis also. That is what they do.
you’re completely wrong and utterly blinded by your desantis love. thanks for reporting my post. that’s how the left fights
Absolutely...just hope they come through!
