Costco Appears to Have Handed Bud Light a Painful 'Death Star' (* means no restock)

Social media reports indicate things could even get worse for the beer that is making boycotts famous.

To the uninitiated, the little asterisk on the upper right-hand corner of the Bud Light price tags at a few Costco stores — as seen in images now making the rounds of Twitter — is just a little speck of type.

But in the universe of the members-only warehouse retail chain, the asterisk is noted as the “death star,” because when it appears on a label, it means the store does not plan to restock the product once its supply is sold out, according to Newsweek.

Images show the “death star” on different can sizes and packaging, which could mean only certain Bud Light sizes are fading away at certain stores.

[...]

The Western Journal reached out to Costco for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Marie Clark, editor of the shopping site CostContessa, offered confirmation that the mark shown on the Bud Light price tag is indeed called the “death star” by Costco customers.

“On Costco price tags, if you see an asterisk in the upper right-hand corner, this indicates an item won’t be restocked,” Clark said in a September 2022 interview on the food-centered website TheKitchn.

“The item might be full price or it might be discounted — an asterisk alone doesn’t tell you more than that. But if it’s something you want and you were thinking, ‘Oh, I’ll come back and get it next week instead,’ you might want to think twice and purchase it now,” she said.

They could be changing the item slightly too. A different UPC will trigger the discontinuation of the original item. I’d like to think they are being booted, but I am skeptical.

Beer market is super-competitive. Not only are the big brand light beer/pilsners mostly indistinguishable to the average consumer, but there is a vast choice offered by regional and local/micro brands.

Keep the boycott focus on tranny/woke Bud Light, and in another 6 months, changed consumer habits will be cemented in place, and the brand will be DEAD.

My COSTCO does not sell beer, wine or liquor anyway.

Most of the people I know that shop at Costco never bought Bud Lite to begin with - rather they were into ‘Craft Beers’.

No star at my store on Monday. Priced higher than Miller Lite. Equal amounts of each beer.

Keep the ball rollin’...till inBev (the whole shootin’match) is washed away. Just gotta cut out their profit margin. If they are making no profit on their investment they will take the money and run. Gotta do same to Target...We will not be propagandized by cheap philosophy because we like your service provided or contribute to a “cause” or notion we disagree with.

Normally on in areas where alcohol is sold in grocery. They didn’t in Kansas, but they do down in Arizona.

BINGO!

The prime differentiation within a type of beer is brand loyalty. That is just about all they have to sell and AB blew it. Not only that but they have added insult to injury in the process by trying to ignore their huge mistake as if it will just go away.

It will end when we collapse this brand. They’ll rebrand and relaunch it thereafter, but this scalp on the wall is massive and a huge step forward in getting corporations out of the culture wars

They're not being booted as much as InBev/Budweiser is likely cutting shipping.

Two bottling plants that supported Budweiser have already closed:

This.

We want every corporation looking over their shoulder and asking their marketing manager, fresh out of college, if she is sure her campaign endorsing communism is the best way to attract American consumers.

Are the other Budweiser beers, besides Lite, also in trouble. Like Busch? Full strength Budweiser?

...but there is a vast choice offered by regional and local/micro brands.

Would you ever see an obscure brand and decide I'll try that?   It defies logic to think that.   You drink the beer you trust.

For what it's worth I have always flushed Budweiser or Michelob down the toilet every time I had a chance.   That bull pizz is not drinkable as far as I'm concerned.

You don’t have a real Costco. You have a Costco Light.

You've never been to a brew pub? THey're everywhere - I've got about 8 within 10 miles of me. Never been to a gathering where someone brings an unknown beer? All your friends drink exactly the same brand? Never been to a restaurant that didn't serve your brand?

Do you live in a cave?
