Ron DeSantis says he wouldn't be Trump's running mate: 'I'm not a No. 2 guy'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he would not be former President Donald Trump’s running mate if given the opportunity to join him on the ticket.

“I don’t think so. I’m not a No. 2 guy,” DeSantis said on the “Wisconsin Right Now” radio show, saying he would rather stay on as governor because the vice presidency “doesn’t really have any authority.”

Asked about his own thoughts on a running mate, DeSantis said, "It’s a little bit presumptuous to be doing that at this stage."

"I’m here to win the early primaries, and that’s what we’ve got to do first," he added.

We need two strong people at the top... not just the top of the ticket - the top of the country.

Hopefully DeSantis will reconsider....

Generally agree. At the same time, if someone decides to out themselves and decline the #2 spot without any pressure on themselves, hey, we gotta believe them.

desantis is quite the pretentious, owed the position, type of guy, isn't he.

Ridiculous. It would have been easy to sit back and vie for VP. If he had done that, pressure on Trump to select him as VP would have been immense.

Instead, he’s taken the hard road of fighting Trump on the principles of being a true conservative, starting with all the trannie gay rights crap Trump supports.

Lately saying
“Ukraine” “Putin” or “DeSantis” has been like stepping on a landmine on threads.

Brings out the animosity and intolerance here.

Good.

I don’t want this guy anywhere near the White House in Trump’s 2nd term.

I will vote Donald Trump come primary day in Illinois but I have nothing bad to say about Ron DeSantis and would happily vote for him in the general election should he be the “R” nominee.

Enough mud slinging toward and from two great candidates.

Keep in mind the choices we have had in the recent past. McCain and Romney come to mind..

That may be due to trust issues with so-called conservatives who immediately become wimps once elected.

The old adage comes to mind:

“A reputation that takes a long time to build can be destroyed in less than 5 minutes.”

I’m well aware of your political positions cowboyusa, you aren’t afraid to express an opinion.

Also, I was being a bit harsh on young DeSantis.
It’s early we’ll have to see how things shake out.

People on Free Republic keep saying that. She signed a bill to ban males in female sports, after having rejected the first bill on the subject. Some Freepers will never forgive her for having rejected the first version of that bill.

According to Governor Noem the first bill had flaws in it that would allow the NCAA to sue South Dakota. She issued executive orders to protect girls from having biological men play in girl's sports until they fixed the flaws in the bill. Then she signed the new bill which is supposedly one of the strongest bills in the nation protecting women in sports.

I’m a Trump guy, but I like DeSantis, and just 6 months ago, alot of people I talked to were ‘ready to move on’ from Trump to DeSantis.

It’s pretty rare to see a politician self-destruct the way Lockdown Ron has in such a short span of time. I’m not even sure i can pinpoint a specific moment that caused it, like the howard dean scream, but meatball has just fallen off a cliff. It’s really something to behold. Maybe he can start getting traction again in a few months, but dang he has had an absolutely miserable campaign so far.

I do not trust Noem because when she was in the House of Representatives I saw a picture of her appearing to be close friends with disgraced rep. (and closeted homo) Aaaron Schock. The picture told me everything I needed to know. She’s part of the ‘club’ that doesn’t want Trump in it.

My preference would be if Trump picks a VP who is not a politician but knows enough about politics to be a real asset. Can back Trump on business of the country america first things. I hope God answers the prayers of allof us praying for our country to turn backto Him.

That would be my preference as well. The only "politician" I'd like to see as President Trump's VP would be Rand Paul, but I'd hate the thought of losing him in the Senate and being replaced by a McConnell type.

So, explain why you want desantis, who has lied to people, jerked people around by playing games with his answers to people’s questions, and shown he has deliberately committed fraud and FEC campaign law violations, as president?

Do you feel or think that De Santis is going ahead with his Presidential nomination because he would like to be able to exert some power on what Ron sees as necessary to maintain our freedom and success?

From the looks of things you are a #2 guy so to speak, Ron.

I can’t believe this.

Do you think just RUNNING FOR OFFICE IDENTIFIES A MAN?

Running for office is the LEAST OF THE CONSIDERATIONS.

WHAT YOU DO AFTER YOU ARE ELECTED IS THE IMPORTANT THING.

If an intelligent person is running for office...YOU MUST CONSIDER WHAT THE HECK YOU ARE GOING TO DO IF YOU SUCCEED.

DeSantis is hungry for the power to make a difference.

NOW, WE MUST CONSIDER WHAT THE HECK THE CHANGES WILL BE IF WE VOTE FOR HIM.

>> I’d rather have a lefty as Governor than a popular Republican

With all due respect — that’s just ignorant. I’d rather have pretty much *any* (R) over any leftist. Leftism delenda est.
