Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s 2024 presidential campaign saw another setback over the weekend as the Republican candidate saw support withdrawn from top America First movement figures such as Mike Cernovich after DeSantis’s staff attacked him and others for asking questions about DeSantis’s position on the Russia hoax.
The incident started with Darren Beattie, a former Trump White House official, tweeting a clip of DeSantis — then a congressman — talking about then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into “Russian collusion” between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian agents.
Beattie tweeted the clip with a question, asking if DeSantis still stood by what he said about this narrative in that interview.
In response to Beattie’s tweet, DeSantis’s press secretary Jeremy Redfern attacked him — accusing Beattie of being “dishonest.”
That kicked off a broader Twitter war among a number of folks on the right, seeing Cernovich — someone who had previously backed DeSantis — jump in and pressure Redfern for a specific answer on where DeSantis stood on the issue:

To be clearer - Beattie and Cernovich was asking if desantis still believed russia hacked the 2016 election and wikileaks was a russian op, because desantis signed off on the report that said it was.
No one on the desantis side wanted to answer that question, instead went off on tangents or attacked the two for continuing to try to get an answer.
Cernovich then disavowed his prior support for desantis for president.
“Putin, if you look at the operation they did with the spear-phishing and the hacking — that was really a third-rate operation,” DeSantis says in the interview clip, and continues, explaining:
It was not sophisticated. I think the House Intel report and the Mueller indictment kind of show that. But, man, what mileage have they gotten out of that? A lot of that is being driven by the president’s political opponents, both in the Democratic Party and the press — and I think that’s what bugs him about the issue is that it’s used to try to delegitimize his election victory. I personally think that the [House] Intel report and the indictment are credible in terms of assigning blame, culpability to Russia.
Where did he say that Trump colluded with Russia? Beattie was dishonest, trying to make DeSantis look as though he believed Trump conspired with Russia.
DeSantis could just say what everyone on FR knows: Mueller and Trump/Russia and Crossfire hurricane was fake from beginning to end.
Based on the fake Steele Dossier and fabricated FISA warrants.
Why won’t he say that?
Ah, another desantis supporter lying and mis-representing what was happening, and going off on a tangent.
Beattie and Cernovich were asking if desantis still believed russia hacked the 2016 election and was involved in wikileaks,
and not the misdirection and lie given by skr that they were asking if desantis believed there was Trump-russia collusion.
And as Reverend Wright said, why doesn’t desantis say the whole thing was false now?
Is it because desantis believes russian hacking DID occur to help Trump win in 2016?

Ron DeSantis defended former President Donald Trump during a roundtable discussion the Florida governor held on Tuesday morning. During the discussion, DeSantis referred to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into allegations that Trump’s 2016 campaign team colluded with Russia as the “Russia collusion hoax,” echoing a phrase that is often repeated by the ex-president himself.
DeSantis himself is a former DOJ prosecutor. That alone should disqualify him from holding any public office. Child molesters and arsonists deserve more respect.
Bttt
The Uniparty made a fool out of Trump before he realized what vipers infested the DC GOP. They’ve done the same to RdS. Does he even care?
Hmmm...Maybe DeSantis running for President in 2028 would have been a better idea? If only someone would have thought of that before he got into this race.

The part of the clip that Beattie cut off:
DeSantis’s campaign, meanwhile, from its “War Room” account, tweeted out more of the clip of DeSantis on Fox News talking about that as a congressman, and accused Beattie of selectively editing off the end where DeSantis says “at the same time, I don’t think that had anything to do with the fact that he whooped Hillary Clinton and I also don’t think there was any Trump-Russia collusion. So there’s just all these issues that I think have been kind of intermingled by a lot of the people that want to damage him as president.”
Desantis was both feet in on a Russia “hack” which EVERYONE kmows is utter BS.
He won’t disavow it. He’s not dumb, so that makes him dishonest.
As with many issues, like Ukraine, Desantis is a tap dancer.
You keep misrepresneting the issue.
Post 1,000 links, none have Desantis disavowing his (either) idiotic or dishonest statements.
Because he already did say it. Long before he was a candidate for POTUS. Then again, this doesn't fit your agenda.

“Think about where this dossier came from. It was not something that was
generated by an intelligence agency. It was funded by the Democrats and
Hillary Clinton through the Perkins Cole law firm to Fusion GPS,” DeSantis
asserted.DeSantis also blasted the dossier’s author, Christopher Steele, as lacking
relevant contacts, tenuously based on his being a spy in Russia a quarter
century ago.“[He] didn’t really have any sources,” DeSantis said. “They put a lot of BS in
this thing. Fake news, and then they tried to dress it up as an intelligence
product.”“I think it would undermine the legitimacy of the genesis of the investigation
and all the way to the present … The Russia collusion was always more of a
narrative than anything based on any type of factual
basis. But if this was the basis to get surveillance on an American citizen, remember, if you are doing a
FISA surveillance on an American citizen, it’s not just that they may have
foreign contacts. You have to actually say there is a basis they committed a
criminal offense.”“If the dossier, an opposition research political hit piece, is what you’re using,
it calls into question how they’ve conducted themselves in this investigation.
There’s no doubt about it,” DeSantis said. FL Politics Archives
The RDS camp needs to get a thicker skin. No doubt they know by now they are supposedly the second in line but they seem weak in that they whine when challenged or criticized at all.
Just answer the question. That was all that needed to be done and this would have never been a story.
Preposterous melodrama.
Then all that needed to be done was to repeat it. Not argue about it. Not everyone hears things the first time.
Why are you pushing a different statement, that doesn’t answer the questions asked, which was
does desantis, who worked and had to sign off on a report that said russia hacked the 2016 election, still believe russia hacked the election, and was involved in wikileaks.
Not did Trump collude with russia.
Is it because it’s a desantis campaign talking point?
To call it dishonest is being polite.
And Tucker Carlson's old producer and former reporter at the Daily Caller has gone on the record about what a complete loon Matt Boyle is. Believe anything written by that goofus at your own peril
Whoo boy!
Not true. An honest interviewer would know what I was able to find in a ten second Google search. A nefarious interviewer set the agenda to revolve around DJT, and cast a negative story against DeSantis, as the headline demonstrates.
