Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s weaker-than-expected campaign is prompting other Republicans, such as Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, to take a new look at running for president, GOP strategists say.
These Republicans argue that DeSantis, long seen as the strongest potential challenger in a GOP primary to former President Trump, has failed to establish himself as the clear alternative.
“I think his high point was right after the last election, when he was the brightest spot on an otherwise somewhat disappointing night for Republicans,” said GOP strategist Vin Weber, commenting on the big DeSantis reelection victory for governor in 2022.
“Since then, he hasn’t come on as strong. It looks to me people are looking at it because he’s not as strong as he was before,” added Weber, who advised Republican presidential campaigns in 1996, 2004 and 2008.
Weber argued Trump also looks vulnerable, despite his massive polling lead, because of his mounting legal problems, which could make the race look more attractive to Youngkin and Kemp.

The problem isn’t who the GOP candidate is but the GOP message. DeSantis was a good candidate and the GOP destroyed him. Remember the last guy they backed, some badass dude named Jeb!? The GOP are a bunch of losers representing a loser cause. .
Youngkin for 2028 now that DeSantis has been taken out of the running by the asshats running the GOP.
And what constitution are you referring to? There are not 44 articles
You do understand almost nobody is interested in DeSantis right? 😉
They’re looking elsewhere, but they REALLY love Trump’s policies. It’s just his personality they don’t like. /s
Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota was on C-SPAN this weekend addressing a small crowd at an event in New Hampshire. He sounded pretty good on a number of issues (made me think of Vivek, but Burgum has actual experience as an elected official, now in his second term). He talked about energy, China, drugs/addiction, human trafficking, etc. He’s pro-life. Whether he can move up from the ranks of the candidates who are at 1% in the polls, I don’t know. He’s 66.
They might kill him, since lawfare isn’t working. It can look like a plane crash or a heart attack, but don’t believe it.
>> Ron DeSantis needs to fulfill his obligation to the voters of Fla and be Governor for 4 years.
>> He’s not presidential material.
Yes and Amen to both!
My exact reaction!!!
These weak, compromised, establishment types, having accomplished nothing in their lives, are ALWAYS available to be quoted when media wants to stick it to the base.
There are no others, and even DeSantis can’t can’t compete with Trump 2.0.
That’s rediculous.
He won’t be President.
Not Noem, because she is playing it perfectly.
Noem
Vin Weber? Isn’t he dead?
“Vin Weber? Isn’t he dead?”
Apparently not. He’s alive and well and giving out bad advice like it’s still 1992.
I’m trump all the way. Let him face the electorate. DeSantis is half trumps age. He’ll go later if he wants.
This IS The Hill reporting.
They are trying to push VA and GA governors out the door on a fools quest so they can install RATS back in.
This is also why they go after Desantis.
Their plan is if Trump starts to fail, they can take over most of the States and both House and Senate.
There is a very real chance of this happening.
Oh and I was one of the first to say Trump was going to win in 2016.
Mull away, Trump is the nominee..
When it’s all said and done he will win with well over 60% of the votes cast.
Youngkin needs to stay where he is at. Don’t pull a Ron .
