DeSantis on the Fox News hosted first Republican presidential primary debate: 'I hope everybody who's eligible comes'
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he'll participate in the first Republican presidential nomination debate "regardless" of whether former President Donald Trump takes the stage at the August showdown.
"I'll be there regardless. I hope everybody who's eligible comes. I think it's an important part of the process and I look forward to being able to be on the stage and introducing our candidacy and our vision and our leadership to a wide audience," DeSantis said Thursday on "Fox News Tonight."
The debate is scheduled for August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and will be hosted by Fox News.

There is no need for Trump to go. He is already the nominee!
I hope there’s no controversy about the subject of debating.
I think all serious candidates for political office should be willing to debate their opponents.
This is a good decision. For DeSantis, there never should have been any doubt that he would be present for the debates.
He needs that national exposure. DeSantis declared he was in the race via Twitter. I’m not on Twitter and rarely visit there. Many others in my age group (66 yrs) are probably not regular Twitter visitors either.
Preparation for the debates will help him to hone and define his message on various topics. Some routines of presidential campaigns are there for a good reason.
Not surprised that DeSantis looks on an opportunity to be in the public eye as an essential part of the process.
Good! Trump has no right to anybody’s votes if he isn’t even willing to explain his policies and tell us why we should vote for him. Nobody owes him their votes, and his assumption that we all do is one of the most insulting things about his childish “candidacy.”
Watch out, you'll be called disloyal by Trump, worse by others like FudgePacker_c who can't fathom that we have brains and choices.
Ah. No debates, just like Biden. So much for democracy.
Yep, and how well did that work for Clinton vis-a-vis Michigan and other states in 2016?
“Trump has no right to anybody’s votes if he isn’t even willing to explain his policies and tell us why we should vote for him.”
LOL. Everyone already knows Trump, what he’s about, and what policies he would pursue, so that’s a flimsy reason to demand he subject himself to a rigged uniparty attempted gangrape.
Plus he already held a town hall, in enemy territory, so he’s already shown he is willing to explain his policies, again, for anyone who was asleep for the last 8 years in a Rip Van Winkle coma.
As for “owing him votes”, no nobody owes him votes, but he’s still the preferred candidate of the majority of Republicans, so he’s going to be the nominee. I see no reason why he shouldn’t act accordingly. You can delude yourself that it’s not going to happen but he’s under no obligation to join you.
Not great since she was facing Trump. Luckily Trump is not running against Trump.
debate vs scripted gotcha questions for some and softball helpful questions for others.
debate is good. what we have seen for decades called debates, is not debate.
Trump will go with one condition...an odd number of candidates.
Why odd number only?
Indeed. It’s sad to see what is happening to our republic.
Good for him. He’s not scared unlike others who know they’ll have to answer questions.
God help us.
At least Trump does his own campaigning and debating. Meatball will probably send Ms Meatball in his stead.
That is ridiculous. He’s elderly and could trip tomorrow and that’s it. It’s not smart to put all eggs in one basket especially for someone of that age.
