Under President Joe Biden, the government has faced intense scrutiny for its efforts to curb disinformation online, with critics contending that such undertakings were in truth an attempt to silence opposition to government narratives.

The Biden administration will appeal a recent judicial order that a range of administration officials, including the entire FBI and DOJ, refrain from contacting social media companies to have First Amendment-protected content removed.

Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty issued the order on July 4. The case is part of an effort by Republican-led states to challenge the administration's coordination with social media platforms, which they say was an effort to wrongly censor disfavored viewpoints online.

The Department of Justice, on Wednesday, however, filed a notice of appeal, according to The Hill. Any such appeal with go to the Fifth Circuit, in which Republican-appointed judges comprise the lion's share. A DOJ spokesperson said the agency will likely seek a stay of the decision.

Under President Joe Biden, the government has faced intense scrutiny for its efforts to curb disinformation online, with critics contending that such undertakings were in truth an attempt to silence opposition to government narratives.

Doughty's order did not bar the administration from working with social media platforms to address illegal activity.

“Biden admin to appeal order limiting contact with social media companies”

Expected, they’ll always default on the side of censorship.

I just read this a minute ago.

If I was the Judge, I would dismiss the motion, find the DOJ Lawyer in Contempt, Sanction Him/Her $100,000, give him/her a copy of the US Constitution and the Federalist Papers. JAIL him for 3 days to read and study how the COnstitution works, then bring him/her back to propose an argument as to why he thinks the Government has the RIGHT to CENSOR Protected Free Speech.

If he makes an argument, you JAIL him/her for another 30 days and another sanction but this time $200,000.

Abuse of Process is Contempt of Court

After denying that they collude with social media, this appeal essentially admits that they have, and do, and intend to going forward. (Of course we knew that.)

Pretty stupid.

Translation = "Yes we screw the public, manipulating the news and social media. We use it as a political weapon against those which stand in our way in the public debate.

Election fraud, financial policy, corruption, bribery, DOJ corruption, spying on Americans, Undercover operations using BLM, ANTIFA, and NGO's, is what we do now.

I say this whole controversy is essentially meaningless. Because there is no penalty associated with violating this directive. There is no “or else”. And as things are, there is certainly no prosecutor available that would take on such an effort.

Government paying or ordering other companies to engage in censorship of what others say makes the an agent of the government and as such violates the first amendment. PERIOD.
