Macron Wants Platforms To Delete Riot Content, Blames Social Media and Video Games For Riot Spread

In France, a storm is brewing (again), and French President Emmanuel Macron appears to have figured it all out – it’s social media and video games that are to blame for the ongoing riots in France!

This came following four nights of rioting initially triggered by the fatal police shooting of a Muslim teenager, Nahel M.

Macron’s comments are hardly original, yet they warrant scrutiny from a free speech perspective.

One cannot help but raise an eyebrow as President Macron pleads with social media giants to erase the “most sensitive” content pertaining to the rioting. With a wave of his hand, he decrees, “platforms and networks are playing a major role in the events of recent days.” His words, veiled under a guise of concern, echo a familiar tune that has been played on the world stage before.

“We’ve seen them; Snapchat, TikTok and several others, serve as places where violent gatherings have been organized, but there’s also a form of mimicry of the violence which for some young people leads them to lose touch with reality.

“You get the impression that for some of them they are experiencing on the street the video games that have intoxicated them,” he added.

It’s fascinating that social media platforms and video games are often the easiest targets when those in power look for a scapegoat. It’s like a well-rehearsed performance: when there’s unrest, point fingers at technology. Surely, Snapchat and TikTok are not centuries-old entities that have been brewing riots since the French Revolution.

Is it not reasonable to ponder if this fervor in urging platforms to suppress content may serve a dual purpose? On the surface, it appears to be an act of preventing violence, but does it not also conveniently serve as an avenue for controlling narratives and stifling voices? *** The situation is precarious, with more than 200 police officers injured, and 875 people arrested. The nation watches on as buildings are torched and stores are looted.

It appears that many are reluctant to call out what is really to blame for the riots, assaults, arson, and looting: Africans.

“Maybe if I sweep this pile of drippy yurd under the rug, nobody will notice. Hey! Delete that! Stop noticing!” - Macron

Censorship...

That’s the ticket. Hide reality as long as you can pinhead.

I have a former colleague who is vacationing through the east French countryside; the only city she chose to skip was Strasbourg, otherwise from Montpellier through Lyon and up the Rhone to Dijon has been perfectly peaceful.

It makes me wonder if France isn’t like here, with a distinction between the main cities and what in the US would be known as flyover country. Imagine being in Savigny and all you see of the US on TV or social media is the savagery in Chicago or Baltimore or San Fran or Miami, and concluding that all of the US is a very unsafe place to be.

Maybe having police shoot angry Islamic illegals in the face is provoking riots more than “social media”.

France is a much smaller country than the United States. At 213,000 square miles, it is smaller than Texas (269,000 square miles), but has more than twice the population of the Lone Star State (63 million vs. 29 million). As in most of Europe, there are not the sprawling low density suburbs that exist from coast to coast in America. France has a unitary government, not a Federal one where much power still resides in the states.

Most importantly, France has strict gun control laws, which are enforced on the native white population and not the Muslim migrants. During the George Floyd riots, Antifa and BLM terrorists ventured into small towns on the fringe of metro areas, such as Weatherford, Texas, 30 miles west of Fort Worth, and were "greeted" by hundreds of well-armed locals and a hostile local police force and sheriff's deputies. The terrorists quickly turned around and returned to Fort Worth and Dallas.

I believe it is that way for now from the video we are seeing. The big cities are where the rioting is.

The album There’s A Riot Going’ On by Sly and the Family Stone has a listing for the title song but actually there is a run time of 0.00 and the song is not there.

“....in 1997 Sly Stone said that the “There’s a Riot Goin’ On” track had no running time simply because “I felt there should be no riots.”

A nicer song Hot Fun In the Summertime

Macron will shrink the internet and video game universe to this old time original game PONG.
