You are not wrong, this is a one-party state.

But this is NOT China. In fact the Viets fought a war with China, after fighting the USA. Unlike China, Vietnam has very good relations with America.

In fact, we may have mishandled relations with Vietnam originally.

(Some think we did)

It is a very good place. This is NOT China. We have facebook, Twitter, you name it.

Just saying. Vietnam was concerned with uniting their country.

They did.

Now it is a nice place. Just saying…

I agree.

I crashed my bike several times, ended up in the hospital twice.

My wife insisted I get an electric tricycle, I may buy one of these very soon.

I’m aware. There are no good answers.

I visited Vietnam in 2004 and loved it. The only thing that was strange was at the museum, they called it the American war. Awkward as it was a tour of Americans. But we took it in stride and continued on. Was weird though.

Yeah I don’t know whether you fought.

I missed the end of the war by around a year. There is clearly a difference between before and after. But the Vietnamese just moved on.

I think we (as Americans) are far more worried about the war, than the Vietnamese are. They are worried about other things now.

Hope you are ok. 😎

We do tend to obsess about things from the past. I guess it’s in the nature of the country. I also did not fight in Vietnam. Too young. I remember how vibrant the city was and so much to do. I hope you are well too.

"Just remember to order air-con."

An A/C will seriously cut the claimed travel range of a new fully-charged battery of 100 km (62 mi), especially in 100 deg weather on a black asphalt road. After a year of use the travel range on a used battery with A/C will be even lower.

Better get a rear hitch to haul along a trailer with a portable gas generator.

Sorry no single party state is a ‘nice’ state. Who the hell do you think you are talking too?

Amazing how many globalist GOPe types think single party states are fantastic places.

In fact, we may have mishandled relations with Vietnam originally.

Yes. Originally, right after WWII, we supported independence for many Asian colonies. We even gave the Philippines their independence in 1946. Like us, tomorrow is their Independence Day!

The problem was the French. Unless we supported them, they would not support us in NATO and Soviet containment. And losing China to Mao was a body blow to those who wanted us to support Asian independence. Korea further enhanced the domino theory blokes. After that, EVERYTHING was part of the Cold War struggle.

The ideals of the immediate post war crowd were over after the summer of 1950.

Agree with most of your comments but we cannot forget that the country is tightly controlled by the communist. They are suppressing the Montagnard people and the Catholic Church.

I’ve heard the same - really want to visit!

Makes sense in a part of the world where they're not afraid of building more coal plants. And Vietnam is about 3% the size of the U.S. So we're probably not talking about a market of drivers wanting long trips like driving from Seattle to Miami.

Bad idea, though, if they have 3rd world power experiences like California.
