British Banks are to be told by the Treasury that they must protect free speech amid an escalating row over the blacklisting of customers who hold controversial views.
Jeremy Hunt, the Chancellor, is understood to be “deeply concerned” that overzealous lenders are closing down accounts because they disagree with customers’ opinions and has asked City minister Andrew Griffith to investigate the issue.
Whitehall sources said that results of a consultation on the subject will be published within weeks, after it was launched earlier this year in the wake of PayPal blocking the accounts of free speech groups.
The controversy flared up again last week after the leading Brexiteer Nigel Farage revealed his account had been closed by his bank. A vicar was also dropped as a customer after criticising his lender’s stance on LBGTQ+.

Sadly article is paywalled but the gist of it is that some banks have been closing accounts due to people complaining about them celebrating "Pride" including an Anglican vicar.
I guess it's not a good look for the so called conservative government! So perhaps something will be done...

Short term win as the Left is still in the process of consolidating power, and thus is subject to removal. Once that threat is cleared, they’ll quickly start using the banks to enforce behavior.
I suspect it’s only a matter of time before it is fully
sanctioned.
All it takes is a Leftist government.

I was listening to Mark Steyn the other day, who believes that he was denied a critical blood transfusion at a Vermont hospital on account of his conservative views. He went so far as to mention that he’s thinking of suing the hospital. Steyn is a conservative pundit who has a reputation for actually doing something, as opposed to simply flapping his jaws. I can’t say that I appreciate the way he’s always pissing on the U.S. Constitution, but I admire him for his principles.
The only possible answer to communist banks is for other bank customers to close their accounts and remove themselves to any bank who is not communist.
Otherwise, communities must open their own freedom banks.
When one person is harmed, all are harmed in these cases.
