Texas eliminates DEI at public colleges and universities
Campus Reform ^ | 7/2/23 | Haika Mrema

Texas became the latest state to ban diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in public schools earlier this month.

Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 17 into law, prohibiting DEI offices in Texas public colleges and universities starting in 2024. The new law comes months after the University of Houston’s decision to ban DEI statements in faculty hiring.

“The issue is not diversity – the issue is that equity is not equality, and DEI practices conflate the two, Governor Abbott’s spokesman Andrew Mahaleris told Campus Reform. “Some universities and woke professors have been using DEI to advance political agendas and exclude conservative viewpoints on college campuses. These efforts adversely affect our students, limit exposure to diverse thought, and destroy our education system.”

“Governor Abbott is proud to sign SB 17 into law because in Texas we give people the opportunity to advance based on talent and merit,” Mahaleris continued.

The article says "latest state" to ban DEI initiatives in public schools, but it doesn't list those states. I believe others that have done so are Florida, Missouri, South Carolina, North Dakota, and Iowa. Let me know if you have information that either of those states haven't do so, or if you know of additional states that have passed such legislation.

Did they ban the name (like banning CRT created DEI) or did they ban the activity?

The necessary law fits on a postcard: “The State of Texas forbids anti-white agitation, education, or actions, because they are inconsistent with Article IV, Amendment XIV, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964”

“Texas eliminates DEI at public colleges and universities”

Unless there’s some SERIOUSLY ENFORCEMENT, combined with purges, I’d slightly change the title of the article:

“Texas eliminates the term “DEI” at public colleges and universities”

It’s an awesome law.

Let the hissing snakes of California and Noo Yawk throw stones at this one.

The quality of graduates and professors in TX is about to take a quantum leap upward.

It’s only a good law if it’s enforced.

You do know that that fails the equal treatment under the law check just like DEI does, right?

It also ignores the fact that people of Asian descent are rapidly being lumped together with Caucasians as targets for such agitators and we really don’t need to go through this all over again for another unfairly targeted group. Especially not when we can solve an easily forseeable problem once and for all then move on.

Look at their budgets.

Texas is at Deep State’s mercy.

So is every other damn state in the union.

We don’t have red states.

We are not going to be voting our way out of this with our feet.

Until and unless a state(s) raises its own money and turns down federal money..little will actually ever change.

Texas which is size a small country could do it. Or, could have done it.
