The Dutch East India Company are the ones that brought slavery to North America in the colonial times. Personally I always thought it was kind of crappy how everybody blamed America for slavery, when it was the Dutch. I don’t know if they should apologize but it’s nice to have somebody at least acknowledging history.
A Dutch ship brought the first Africans to Jamestown in 1619, but slaves had been imported to the New World for more than a century before that by the Spanish and Portuguese...and some Englishmen were involved too. Meanwhile European Christians were frequently being enslaved by Muslims during the same period.
