A New Jersey man is facing a fine of $32,000 for cutting down thirty-two of his neighbor's trees to improve the view from his $1.75m mansion of New York City's skyline.
Grant Haber is said to have violated local legislation in the town of Kinnelon, New Jersey, that requires a permit to be acquired before removing trees.
Haber is alleged to have hired individuals to cut down 32 mature trees on his neighbor Samih Shinway's property in order to get a better view of New York City.
Pictures show the extensive mess left by those hired to take out the work.
Shinway said he arrived home one day to a team of men working on removing the trees from his property.
He said: 'When I came home on February 27th I heard chainsaws and I drove my 4-wheeler to see where the noise was coming from.
'I saw a tree shredder and 4 men on my property and they were on my cousin's property too.
'Haber tried to act like it was a big mix up. The workers right away blamed him & he denied everything and told them all to leave.
'Haber came out and said "isn’t this a disaster? Who would do this?". Ever since he cut the trees down there’s been lots of crows and Soil erosion.
'When I was outback with the forester he let his two dogs out and they were harassing us.
'He was yelling for the dogs from 50 feet away but wouldn’t come get them.
'The fine is 32 grand but the estimates in damage are around $1.9 million.
'A letter was dropped in our mailbox that was typed & unsigned saying he’s not a bad neighbor & he moved here because he loves nature. Otherwise he’s had nothing to say.'

The neighbor should offer to site a cell tower right in front of this guy’s house. He could even make a little money on rent.
Why would anyone WANT to see NYC??
I would hope so. I would sue for the damage, plus have him import replacement trees, punitive penalty is the value of his home and have him pay to build a 10 foot wall between him and I. Still what we call piddly a** money for him.
Of perhaps replace the trees with a giant banner that blocks his view. Since Haber claims he didn't cut down the trees for a view, it shouldn't matter to him.
Perhaps even put a message on the banner: "Trump '24" or "Jesus Is Lord."
That's protected speech, especially on your property.
He is doomed to Hell.
Fish Emulsion BRAVO !!!
Stinky stuff but I’ll bet the grass loved it.
So you need a permit in NYC to steal trees from your neighbor’s property. Only in NY.
I’d build a 40 ft fence along the property line
This NeoCon is a big fan of Victoria Nuland.
Why am I not surprised.
Actually, it's New Jersey.
His view is of NYC.
Some jurisdictions have height restrictions on fences and hedges.
Don’t agree with him being fined because he did not have a permit to cut trees. That penalty would apply whether the trees were in his property or not. Now, the actual owners of the trees now have a personal right to sue him and possibly criminally prosecute him for destruction of property but the government telling you that you can’t cut down trees.
He’s on LinkedIn, look him up. The profile of his business isn’t munitions. He’s some sort of security consultant.
I wouldn't consider someone's social media profile to be determinative of anything.
LinkedIn is not quite social media. Its more of an online resume and job search service.
Look up your friends.
A New Jersey homeowner chopped down 32 of his neighbor’s trees along a hillside in a tiny town to get better Manhattan skyline views — and he could now be forced to pay more than $1.5 million in fines and replacement fees, according to officials and the furious neighbor.
“It breaks my heart. It angers me. These trees take a very long time to grow,” said Samih Shinway, 40, of Kinnelon, who said a quarter acre of his oaks, birches and maples were slashed.
His neighbor, munitions expert Grant Haber, was hit with an initial fine of $32,000 — $1,000 per axed tree — after clearing part of the leafy, 7-acre property in March, borough forester John Linson told northjersey.com Tuesday.
A town ordinance also requires anyone who illegally removes a tree in Kinnelon to replace it with “another of like or superior species.”
The root of the problem is that restoring the toppled trees will require building a roadway to the site and watering the new ones for two years — a massive undertaking estimated to cost $1.5 million, Shinway said.
Haber will also have to factor in the price of adding soil, removing invasive species and clean-up, Shinway said.
I would sue the sh!t of him. and build a MONSTEROUS wall in front of the tree line right in front of his skyline view!
Then send him a note, saying, “there, fixed that azzwipe”!
If he did that to my property, I think I’d build the ugliest structure in place of the trees. Like a huge butt. Let the ahole look at that every day.
Nice mansion at the top of the hill there, be a SHAME if someone threw a MOLOTOV COCKTAIL into it!
