Trump has yet to say if he will participate in the RNC-sanctioned debates, expressing disappointment back in April as possible details of the RNC’s future plans began to surface. At the time, Trump expressed disappointment that nobody obtained the approval of the Trump campaign before announcing possible details of the future debates.
“When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?” Trump asked in an April 25 Truth Social post.
“Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!” he added.
Months later in June, the RNC formally announced the details of the first debate, which will be moderated by Fox News’s Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. And according to NBC News, which spoke to several advisers, it sounds as if Trump is leaning toward skipping out on the debate altogether. He may also be toying with the possibility of a dueling event.
“Trump is also exploring options for counterprogramming during the first debate, according to people familiar with his deliberations,” NBC News reported.
It is no secret that Trump has been unhappy with Fox News. He made that even clearer in a June 26 Truth Social post, essentially blasting the outlet for allegedly showing bias in favor of Gov. Ron DeSantis, covering the governor’s border news conference “from beginning to end” while failing to cover Trump’s big speeches over the weekend.

This report comes weeks after the RNC announced the criteria for the first debate, which include several categories of requirements which must be met in order to participate, including stringent fundraising and polling metrics. On the latter point, a presidential hopeful must poll at least one percent in three qualifying national polls or garner one percent in two national polls in addition to one percent in a qualifying early state poll.
Additionally, candidates will be asked to sign a pledge to the RNC, promising to refrain from participating in “any non-RNC sanctioned debate.” They must also agree to support the Republican party’s nominee.
Recent surveys — both national and state-level — continued to show Trump as the clear frontrunner in the race, leading by double-digits even as the field grows.
For someone who loves to hear himself talk and who ignored all the rules in previous debates and spoke and acted as he wanted, he sure seems freaked out about these upcoming RNC debates.
Gee, what’s he scared of? He should speak as if he is being recorded bragging about his having classified documents.
You know. With “bravado”.
Pledge to the RNC? Twenty years ago I pledged to never support the RNC.
I doubt Trump has ever walked away from a TV camera in his entire life. He’ll be there for the debate.
I place bet. If such a thing happens, at least half the debate time will be talking about/trashing Trump and/or MAGA.
No matter how many “opponents” facing him, and by “opponents” I mean both the other “R” participants PLUS the so-called moderators, it would be Trump versus the controlled-opposition arm of the Deep State Cabal.

Excellent. I don’t think he should debate at all. He’s already proven to be a “promises made, promises kept” president, at least much more than anyone else.
He just needs to lay out exactly what he plans to do, within his power, and people will know it will likely get done....especially if the congress is on his team this time!
Also, I wouldn’t give FOX the ratings - why let them make use of him? Take a hard pass, Mr. President. Go on Twitter with Tucker - you’ll get 100,000,000 no problem.
I would not participate if there are moderators.
Everyone gets to talk about major issues, they get 5 minutes.
They can use the time to talk about their beliefs and stance on the issues and/or to address someone else's viewpoint, up to them.
From a non-condidate POV, my biggest gripe has always been the moderators, who always seem to be very based in the establishment and often take obviously sides in their moderation.

Trump has no reason to agree to any of that. The RNC needs him more than he needs them.
Actually as much as I don”t think President Trump should even bother with these nitwits; I am always entertained by his debate antics.

I listed all the good reasons why he should participate. Perhaps you disagree? Perhaps he would LOSE a debate?
He never has lost one before. Remember how he stalked Hillary back in 2016? Look how he owned that CNN Townhall Meeting last May. Why would he start losing now?
He should debate on one condition: Tucker Carlson moderates.
Trump's right. Each side should be allowed to choose 3journalists- And by 'side' I mean the top three people running from each party.
RNC: Left Light.
The RNC is part of the problem not part of the solution.
