Rabbi Shmuley Boteach weighed in on the controversy surrounding comedian Roseanne Barr’s sarcastic remark that "nobody died in the Holocaust."
Barr made the remarks during a discussion on free speech and misinformation on Theo Von’s podcast “This Past Weekend.”
When Von asked if the 2020 presidential election was rigged, as former President Donald Trump has claimed, Barr exclaimed, “Of course not! 36 counties have 81 million people in them. That’s the truth and don’t you dare say anything against it or you’ll be off YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and all the other ones. Because there’s such a thing as the truth and facts and we have to stick to it.”
“Nobody died in the Holocaust, either. That’s the truth. It should happen. Six million Jews should die right now, because they cause all the problems in the world,” Barr then said, adding, “It never happened, it never happened.”

I haven’t seen her since she toured with Rodney Dangerfield, but this is exactly her humor.
She’s no Roger Waters.
Maybe she was drunk, but that didn’t sound like humor, and shouldn’t be acceptable humor if that really was her intent.
Slipping?
The overweight obnoxious man hater sniveling constantly about how awful anything with a penis and most of the rest of humanity is was never good enough to have anything to ‘slip’ from.
I disagree. Her sarcasm was obvious and made the point clearly. The mischaracterization of her comments, not matter how loudly and repeatedly those lies about her comments are made, don't change the point she poignantly made.
Besides, I still think Valarie Jarrett is white. LOL
Did he ask Whoopie to clarify her comments? Asking for a friend...
It was 100% sarcasm. As in, if you believe that Biden won fairly then you’ll believe anything.
However, for sarcasm to be effective it has to be immediately recognized as such.
And that’s where Roseanne missed the boat.
Yes, sarcasm relies on a minimum IQ. The continual erosion of IQs in America cause more and more people to “miss” it.
If you give them an opening to concoct a lie, it’s misfired sarcasm. CYAAT, especially in this day and age.
The clips are out of context.
Saw her on Steven Crowder today - basically the conversation was about how we couldn’t question the “facts” of the 2020 election and had to accept what the authorities told us. To which Roseanne follows up with “so we all know the holocaust didn’t happen” and “Jews run Hollywood” which is all stuff authoritarians have said before.
But the leftists are ignoring all that (because they want us to not question they’re totalitarianism) and trying to cancel her again.
And oh, BTW, Roseanne is practicing Jewish.
For one thing, she’s Jewish and hangs out with a rabbi.
She was being sarcastic, clearly obvious in context.
She owes NOBODY an “explanation” or “clarification”, least of all Shmueley Boteach.
Sorry, Rabbi, but nobody appointed you Rabbi of Comedy. Stay in your lane.
For one thing, she’s not overweight anymore. For another, the Roseanne show was anything other than a hate fest against anyone men. Roseanne and Dan was an epic love story, but with verisimilitude. And she’s been moving further right now that she got canceled.
Nope. Don't censor ourselves out of fear the left will censor you. (And I loosely label Roseanne as part of "ourselves" because half the time she's part of the left, much like Musk.) No matter what we say the left will find a way to make it ugly.
Exhibit A: Trump said, "You also had people that were very fine people, on both sides." That's a very disarming statement (especially for Trump) and a call for everybody to respect each other. But instead the left tells it like "Trump said white supremacists are fine people."
“that didn’t sound like humor”
To you. It didn’t sound like humor TO YOU.
“shouldn’t be acceptable humor”
You know what a synonym is for “acceptable humor”? Bad comedy.
Good comedy pays no attention to what is “acceptable” or not, only to what is funny.
It’s why we have sarc tabs, for those who are...challenged.
He’s not Whoopie’s rabbi. He is concerned about the consequences for Roseanne, as her mentor.
I’m sorry, there is nothing, absolutely nothing about the Holocaust to joke about or use as humor.
