Trump Dominates the GOP Field, but Consistently Fails in Head-to-Head Polling Against Biden
Redstate ^ | June 26, 2023 | Joe Cunningham

There is no denying that Donald Trump still holds the most sway over the Republican base. He is a former president, he is still (in their eyes) being persecuted unfairly by the Democrats and the Biden administration, and he is certainly an attention-grabber.

But there is a major difference between dominating a primary and winning a general election, and the most recent polling seems to show that, for all his support among Republicans, Trump is still not yet favored over Joe Biden in a “Devil You Know vs. Another Devil You Know” election fight.

On Sunday, NBC News released its latest poll on the 2024 election, and the numbers are fairly consistent with what we’ve seen – that Trump is a dominant force in the GOP, but the American public at large is still very hesitant where the former president is concerned. This is the same poll, mind you, that shows nearly three-quarters of Americans think the country is on the wrong track. So if Trump is still struggling to overcome that, well… things aren’t great.

Trump ran as a MAGA Republican in 2020 and won more votes than any other incumbent president in history. Now we are all patient, so will you kindly square that fact with your assertion that voters are repulsed by MAGA candidates? However, if you honestly believe that Biden got 81 million votes when he could not gather 50 people at the few campaign appearances he made, then you are beyond any help.

Trump did get more votes, but Biden got 81 million ballots....mostly through legal means....which is why Trump nor anyone else could prove fraud in a court of law.

We do not have voters. We have ballots that are collected by Democrat workers from every registered Democrat sitting on their couch or lying in an alley.

Ballot harvesting is perfectly legal.

So, unless Trump or Trump's GOP (it has been his party since 2016) comes up with a way to harvest more ballots than the left, we will lose again.

Rassmussen and others have Trump 6-8 points ahead of Biden. Sorry TDS Redstate.

ANY poll 16 months before an election is worthless.

A general poll for POTUS is ALWAYS worthless. State-by-state polls have meaning because that is how we elect our POTUS.

2020 was the worst year in most people’s lives and Trump is associated with that by a lot of people

It can be argued whether that’s fair or not or if he should have done more or less etc., but that’s what people remember and he was the president

The last 10 national polls had the following (from newest to oldest):

Biden +4
Biden +1
Biden +4
Trump +6
Trump +6
Tie
Biden +4
Biden +3
Biden +2
Trump +7

So 6 out of the 10 most recent polls show a Biden lead, one tie and three show a Trump lead (and two of those are from the same pollster).

81 million ballots through legal means? Is that the latest DeSantis talking point? Pathetic. Yes, you need help.

“Biden’s numbers are in the tank the party is scrambling for a new puppet Newsom packing his jammies.“

Yet Trump still struggles in a head to head matchup. What does that say?

“Rasmussen and others have Trump 6-8 points ahead of Biden. Sorry TDS Redstate”

I like Trump, and voted for him in 2016 and 2020. But I like winning general elections even more. Whether slightly ahead or slightly behind, one thing is consistent about these national polls – Trump is stuck in the mid-40s with no prospect of rising above that. Further, there is little possibility that the critical swing states (PA, MI, WI, AZ,NV, GA) would return to him in 2024.

An article in Politico last week noted Democrat activists were trembling in fear as DeSantis was holding leads over Biden in most of those states, including PA.

Trump is a known quantity to the entire electorate. Sadly, that means he is the only GOP candidate that Biden can defeat. The Democrat leadership knows this and delights in the prospect of Trump limping to the GOP nomination with an untold number of indictments hanging around his neck.
Trump has a passionate and devoted following, as well as a large contingency that deeply despises him.. Nothing motivates a strong Democrat turnout like Trump on the ballot.

Trump would be well served at this point by focusing all of his fire on Biden, as well as putting forth some serious policy proposals . But starting six months ago he has chosen to spend more money on vilifying Ron DeSantis than he spent during the entire 2022 mid- term elections boosting GOP candidates.

When the GOP primary season begins in earnest next Spring, Trump will be in court explaining why he paid hush money to a porn actress and a Playboy playmate. This doesn’t seem to bother his core supporters in the least.

Recognizing I’m about to be severely castigated on this forum for this common sense observation, I’ll go ahead and say it – DeSantis is the best hope for recapturing the White House in 2024 and begin an eight year journey to chart a new and better course for the country.

I know of NONE, ZERO, ZILTCH, NADA, Independents who will vote for anyone other than Trump. Myself included in that list.

You’re welcome to your views, this is my experience on the ground speaking to people. Yes, I live in FL, a very red area and pro Trump, but I was also speaking to people in PA. One is currently in the GOP and ready to leave to become Independent because of your party’s RINOS/Uni Party

Never mind, the most accurate pollster over the past two election cycles had Trump up six against Biden or that most polls show Trump doing better against Biden than DeSantis.

Your analysis is likely correct. I don’t believe Trump can win because he didn’t do the things he was needed to do to rehabilitate his image and set himself up for success. Does he deserve another opportunity based on his record? Sure. It’s why I supported him in 2020 but people are exhausted by endless Trump. Even many supporters like myself.

We need to choose the best candidate who can win the general election and I don’t think it’s Trump but I also don’t think it’s DeSantis. Right now I’m just not seeing a best option that gives us the policies we want, the win we need and isn’t GOPe.

There’s nothing fair about the Russia hoax and all of that. It doesn’t mean Trump can win with the right voters in the states he’ll need to win. If Trump running means he’s the last Republican president, is that a victory?

You shouldn’t trust them. They are all owned by Salem Media which is a giant conglomerate run by corporate Republican establishment types who hate Trump. They have been out to get him since day one and have only pretended to like him when he was the president.
