Governor Ron DeSantis has sought to distinguish himself as an elected official who never locked down Florida, shut down small businesses, and kept bars open.
However, multiple reports from news outlets detail how the Governor and his administration crushed small businesses during 2020 with orders to shut down, stop serving food, or stripping business licenses altogether.
A report from WKMG News 6 Orlando reported that Florida: “launches inspections on bars and restaurants... looking for those who do not follow CDC guidelines,” even detailing how local sheriffs offices were enlisted to enforce the guidelines.

Trump issues ‘Coronavirus Guidelines’ for next 15 days to slow pandemic
And then there's THIS:
When, exactly, did DeSantis say this?
In truth I am a hardened Trump supporter but shutting down bars during the beginning of the coronavirus/flu scare/scam in the midst of real hysteria seems a little like grasping at straws. Where my wife and I live you couldn’t even go into a hardware store without proving you were doing “essential work”.
So DeSantis complied with the CDC who was enabled by… oh yeah?
Not a winning issue for anyone with a memory.
The democRATs and their media allies are working extra hard to cement that wedge between the various GOP factions.
So Trump lets the Nazis lay ruin to American democracy and freedom and from coast-to-coast spread fear and panic and shut-downs, destroying tens of millions of livelihoods, but DeSantis is evil because he resisted only 99.8%, but shut down drinking establishments and enforced social distancing.
I am so unbelievably sick of this crap. Shut downs and even masking mandates were totally useless. School closures robbed kids of their education in 40-something states. Trump did nothing but send incoherent tweets. But you know what was an entirely reasonable precaution? Social distancing.
I’ll never unsee the sight of Fauci simply getting off on tea-bagging Trump, rolling his eyes and making a total buffoon, and castrated Trump standing there utterly helpless.
The article was posted here by a Trump supporter spreading BS and was written by a reporter doing the same.
He didn't. This is just more made-up tripe from the usual Desantis-haters currently running loose on this forum.
Facts?!?! Them durn fool things! Who needs them. Also a lot was left up to local control so you had stricter policies in some counties than in others. It was fortunate too that a lot of Florida businesses fell under the definition of essential. Construction and trades work was one category and that kept a lot of people working.
You put the “con” in soconpubbie. IMHO, you’re by far the worst nonsense peddler on this site. You’re just weird.
What do you mean? It sounds like Trump and his people are making it an issue. Yet you are saying DeSantis and his people are making it an issue.
So who exactly is making it an issue? Who do you blame for making it an issue for discussion?
On April 1, 2020, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order to restrict activities within the state to those deemed as essential services.[6] By June 2020, DeSantis had adopted a more targeted approach to the pandemic, declaring in mid-June that,
"We’re not shutting down, we’re gonna go forward, we’re gonna continue to protect the most vulnerable....particularly when you have a virus that disproportionately impacts one segment of society, to suppress a lot of working-age people at this point I don’t think would likely be very effective.”
That targeted approach was similar to what the Great Barrington Declaration would recommend later in October. DeSantis got vaccinated voluntarily against Covid 19, and expressed enthusiasm for people getting their shots, but he has also opposed forcing people to do it.
On September 25, 2020, Florida lifted all remaining capacity restrictions on businesses, while also prohibiting local governments from enforcing public health orders with fines, or restricting restaurants to less than 50% capacity.
When Trump makes these wild accusations conservatives understand he’s a politician in a fight and is bound to exaggerate. Trump’s facial expressions when he tells these little fibs telegraphs to the viewer that Trump knows that the viewer knows that “he is just doing what he has to do to win.”
However, when you publish the same misleading stuff - I’m not saying you are completely dishonest - it is not as endearing.
I confess to being a Trump fan and I would vote for him a third time, but I am not a “cultist”. I live in FL and think that DeSantis has done a remarkable job here and would kinda like him to stay as FL’s Governor until the ‘28 election cycle. That said, the Trump cultists seem terrified by DeSantis’s potential as the ‘24 candidate. These “lockdowns” detailed here were in direct response to President Trump’s repeated calls for 15 day lockdowns. DeSantis ended them earlier than any other Governor in the country. Why are exactly are the cultists so frightened?
Democrats continued to promote shutdowns in some places until early 2023, and some are warning they could be imposed again.
Flame away
You’ve “rattled” the swampers, again :)
My grandson’s school in Miami was shut down.
Trump War Room on Twitter (3/29/2023)
The original lockdown orders were bad enough. They've been magnified about a million times over by the way the DeSantis cabal has attempted to completely whitewash this and pretend it never happened.
When Democratic governors were imposing these kinds of lockdown orders, we were rightly calling them 'effing Nazis.
Zzzzzzzzz…..
