Black Lives Matter mural repainted in Santa Cruz after it was vandalized in 2021

In 2021, the mural was vandalized with tire marks, but today two of the individuals responsible for vandalizing the mural were at the repainting, seeking reconciliation from the community they hurt. Organizer with Santa Cruz Equity Collaboration, said both men have gone through hours of reconciliation discussions to help them understand the damage they caused. She said having them at the event today meant a step forward for the community.
