The case for DeSantis over Trump
The Washington Times ^ | June 24, 2023 | Michael McKenna

Posted on 06/24/2023 6:29:35 PM PDT by TBP

the Trump campaign needs to be aware of an emerging thread of data that suggests that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis may do better in the general election.

New survey results from Public Opinion Strategies build on previous results and are starting to frame a coherent story about how the general election might look with different Republican candidates.

The new survey results indicate that Mr. DeSantis would do better than Mr. Trump in the general election in specific battleground states. For example, in Georgia, Mr. DeSantis leads President Biden by 3 percentage points in a general election matchup.

In the same matchup, Mr. Trump loses Georgia to Mr. Biden by 3 points.

In Pennsylvania, Mr. DeSantis runs 2 points better than Mr. Biden while Mr. Trump runs 4 points behind Mr. Biden.

Back in April, Mr. Trump trailed Mr. Biden in Pennsylvania by the same 4 percentage points. Mr. DeSantis led Mr. Biden in Pennsylvania by 3 points.

In Arizona, the current spread between the candidates appears greater. Mr. DeSantis runs 6 points better than Mr. Biden while Mr. Trump runs 3 points behind the president. That is also a greater margin than was evident in polling done in April.

Those results indicated that Mr. DeSantis would defeat Mr. Biden nationally by 3 percentage points while Mr. Trump would lose nationally by 3 percentage points — the same margin by which he lost in 2020.

Good luck supporting a fake MAGA candidate, one who is bankrolled by the worst parts of the phony conservative GOP "elite".

My candidate is a bona-fide conservative who is pro-life and pro-gun.

My candidate does not party with the LGBTQ+ like Trump

My candidate takes on the woke culture warriors and sacrifices donations from Disney while Trump took over $10 million

My candidate donors are all former Trump donors, so if you have a problem with them, then you are a hypocrite of the first order.

I don't care if you support the pro-abortion, willing to ban assault weapons, celebrating Biden's Respect for Marriage Act candidate Trump......just NEVER call yourself a conservative.

Yours is a wooden pretender backed by the Bush/Rove nevertrump RINO members of the party.

I hope you're not okay with that. I know I'm not.

I dare you to prove DeSantis is being helped by Rove or Bush. I dare you.

You can't do it because you are a filthy LIAR or a non-thinker repeating the LIES fabricated by Trump cultists against the only REAL conservative running for POTUS.

Wow. You have some serious emotional problems.

Good luck with your wooden, pretend conservative.

You're gonna need it.

“You refuted nothing.”

Nonsense. The problem with you is you’re playing word games, and I’m not having it. You deliberately give simplistic characterizations of Trump’s position on abortion. By saying he’s pro-abortion, you’re implying that he’s in favor of abortions across the board. He’s clearly not. Trump supports allowing abortion in some situations and not in others. So did Reagan and so does DeSantis. Reagan supported allowing it for rape, incest and threats of life to the mother, and DeSantis just signed a bill that continues to allow abortion on demand, prior to six weeks and up to 15 weeks in cases of rape, incest and human trafficking. Would you ever characterize them as “pro-abortion”? Of course not.

If you were interested in telling more of the truth rather than leaving parts out, you could describe all three - Trump, Reagan and DeSantis - as being “pro-abortion” in some instances and anti-abortion, in others. But you don’t. Instead you engage in the same sort of lies by omission we see from the MSM when they don’t report facts that would give a fuller picture.

If your aim is to educate and inform then you would be consistent with your use of terminology. If propaganda is your aim, then you would selectively apply simplistic terminology that is designed to mislead rather than paint the full picture - which is what you’re currently doing. Peddle your propaganda somewhere else, because you’re wasting your time with me. I see through it.

Leads by 3, leads by 4, all of thee surveys (polls) are in the margin of error. Nothing definitive AT ALL can be extracted from these “surveys”.

DeSantis reduced abortion in Florida from nearly unlimited to 15 weeks in his first term.

DeSantis then reduced it to 6 weeks in his second term.

That is progress toward the goal of eliminating abortion.

DeSantis, as POTUS, says nothing about abortion. It is a state issue, not a federal issue.

Trump, on the other hand, is making abortion a federal issue again by promising to negotiate a nationwide abortion limit everyone can agree with.

I’ll take the guy who is not anxious to force states that have restricted or eliminated abortion from having to abide by a minimum federal limit.

Now, there’s progress. You’ve finally started to address the subject like an adult instead of with ‘gotcha’ language. Now as far as your points about DeSantis - yes, he made progress towards eliminating abortion (at least in his state). So did Trump. And objectively speaking, the repeal of Roe v Wade (which wouldn’t have happened without Trump) has done more to eliminate abortion than anything DeSantis has done. In fact, the legislation you tout would not have been possible without it.

If you want to argue that DeSantis is MORE anti-abortion than Trump, that’s fine. He may very well be, although we need to hear more from DeSantis on if there are any circumstances under which he would allow abortion and what those circumstances might be. But if, as you claim, he wants to leave it to the states, his impact on “eliminating abortions” will remain limited to what he has done in Florida.

I actually suspect DeSantis WOULD support a federal ban on late-term and “post-term” abortions as Trumps does, if he were asked about it. Would you criticize him if he did?

No, no and no.

I don't want a POTUS candidate talking about abortion ever again except to say "its a states' rights issue, not a federal issue"

Utterly meaningless— because JoeBama aint’ gonna make it— they can’t put any more lipstick on his diaper leaks and the leaks from his demented mind.

Your point is what? I can think of no logical reason why DeSantis wouldn't also run better than Trump against Newsom.

This, btw is a “push” poll- noone knows what real polls would show and the battle of the polls has proven (see Luntz) useless- they don’t ask people who matter.

I keep seeing this nonsensical claim whenever a poll shows DeSantis does better than Trump in the general (which is often). You must not know what a "push poll" is. Or you could just be lying.

That poll and a Harvard poll are the only ones I’ve seen showing Trump doing better than DeSantis.

DeSantis has made himself odious to most of MAGA.

How dare he run against Trump?

Think what you want. I can’t begin to describe how little I care.

Given what is known and continues to come out about DeSantis, it’s amazing how anyone still supports him. But you do you.

I can't figure out what you're talking about (which is par for the course for Only Trumpers). You cited a poll. I thought you were arguing that polls about who can beat Biden mean something.

I think your real point is "I don't care if Trump will lose because I hate anyone running against him".

Given what is known and continues to come out about DeSantis

I'm not aware of all these bad things that are coming out about DeSantis. What are you talking about? It probably doesn't make sense either.

You vote for who you want, dead-eye-dick. Your comment or opinion matters, not one bit to me.

And yes, I will proudly state that for me, it’s Pres Trump or no one.

When you attend a fund raiser at Yale, sponsored by the Bush’s, you ain’t getting my vote.

When you show up in a small town in Western South Carolina and draw thousands of folks, there’s a damn good chance you’re getting my vote.

I never gave my opinion on anything. Other than my opinion about how your mind works. Which you confirmed. So my opinion (that you don't care whether Trump will probably lose) was right.

Your name calling is infantile. I guess you'll respond with more name calling.
