Moscow is preparing for war and battening down the hatches as soldiers build outposts and military vehicles flood the streets ahead of the expected arrival of Russia's Wagner militia forces.
Wagner chief Yevgney Prigozhin initiated a military coup against Putin overnight, which has seen the group take key cities and threaten the President, who called them 'traitors'.
Putin addressed the Russian people on Saturday, warning that the military leader had 'stabbed him in the back', as Moscow prepares to enter into lockdown, with troops digging in in preparation to defend the city.
Prigozhin and his feared 25,000-strong Wagner militia took control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, saying they are 'ready to die' for their 'march of justice', and have been heading north in a hundreds-strong convoy of armoured vehicles.
The unit passed through the halfway city of Voronezh and have reached as far north as Yelets as they advance on Moscow, seeing negligible resistance.
A message posted on the Wagner Telegram channel on Saturday said: 'Putin made the wrong choice. All the worse for him. Soon we will have a new president.'
Footage on social media has shown large convoys of troops heading north from Voronezh, thought to be Wagner mercenaries. They are also said to be on their way to other key cities including Krasnodar and Volgograd.
Russia has responded by increasing security in Moscow, mobilising troops who are set to defend against the incursion, and calling for the military to rally around President Putin.
All public events have been cancelled, as Putin called close ally Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko to brief him on the situation.
Pro-Putin forces on the outskirts of the city were meanwhile seen digging in against the Wagner coup army heading towards the capital.

“s may seem a dumb question but if they are rolling then that sre they rolling on? Did they take the 6:32 out of Donbass for Moscow stopping at Rostov? Seriously though, they need transport. Also, do they have their own armor and artillery and air? And fuel. Heck Putin’s army in Ukraine had fuel problems. I am pretty certain something is happening but unless other units of the Russian Army are involved I can’t yhink Moscow is in any real danger.”
Wagner units are now reported as close as 250 miles from Moscow, moving north fast. They have only met token resistance which they seem to have easily pushed through. These Wagner units had been in reset for the last few weeks which means they probably are fully resupplied with food, ammunition and fuel.
I had to laugh. I just Map Quested from Liptesk to Moscow on the M4 highway and they showed several speed traps!
There are a couple of hundred Wagner guys doing this.

Sure there are. 25k... rolling to Moscow.
Thereby increasing their vulnerability, but then again the fuel consumption on armored vehicles is voracious so understandable. But its still a very long and exposed trek.
Question:
Why wouldn’t Prizo ask for a meeting with Putin if he felt disrespected? Come in to the Kremlin as a Trojan Horse with is bodyguards and then make his move?
You know... you can only do so much. Let their dream live a little longer. It means so much to them.

Wagner Group enters Lipetsk city in Russia
Russia news LIVE updates: The governor of Russia’s Lipetsk province says the Wagner mercenary group has entered the region.
There is 7 hrs time difference between US Eastern and Moscow.
The governor of Lipetsk, around 350 km (218 miles) south of Moscow, said the Wagner column was moving through his region.
What of fuel. Modern armor and SPGs are not really any more fuel efficient than Sherman tanks were. Because of Russian inefficiency and Ukie attacks fuel was and is a problem for Putin’s forces, including Wagner. I don’t think the Wagner machines simply topped off at Russian Army fuel depots. Also Wagner’s successes in Ukraine came in that grimeiest and miserable part of war, house to house against a determined adversary. The one time they tried open country fighting 40 Jarheads and a dozen or so Greenheads in Syria artfully killed half their force with a fine display of artillery obsrrvation skill and tactical defensive weapons placement
“Where are they now”
Reports are that Wagner troops are within 250 miles from Moscow advancing rapidly, meeting little to no resistance.
You are talking like there’s huge armies of resistance facing Wagner.
There are none; they’re all in Ukraine.
Patton had to contend with real Wehrmacht and SS forces with battle hardened troops trying to stop him.
All such Russian troops are in Ukraine, and not in the way. What soldiers are there between Moscow and Wagner that are capable to stop them?
And many, if not most of them, are fed up with the oligarchs in Moscow stealing the money for weapons and ammo.
I would say it really sucks to be Shoigu. He will flee soon, if he hasn’t already.
On it’s face the idea that a small mercenary force would make it all the way to Moscow is absurd.
However, some of the information points to the Russian military standing down and letting them pass and these things have a way of taking on a life of their own. I would bet there are many oligarchs bitterly unhappy over the prosecution of the Ukraine war. Putin’s hold on power has NOT grown stronger despite what many say - how could it? The West has seized billions and cost them tens of billions with sanctions most impacting the oligarchs.
We have little idea of what is going but I am most worried about security of the nuclear weapons because their military leadership is unbelievably corrupt and IF they believed themselves about to be deposed, jailed, or worse, what better commodity to take with you to insure your prosperity?
Plus the Wagner group is probably the most effective and well equipment fighting group among the Russian Forces, mainly because they were supposed to be personally loyal to Putin, and they are battle hardened by being the main fighting group in Bakhmut.
That plus Russia having sent most of their able fighters to the Ukrainian fronts means the roost is mostly empty. It’s not that surprising at all that the forces which remain in Russia are unable to effectively stop their advance.
I have to agree. Biden will continue to send them money, for “rebuilding”…
What makes you think a video taken by some random person showing what is happening in their town is from "a biased party"?
In many of the videos the camera person says just what any person would say if they witnessed something unusual or bad happening. They are upset, worried, and not expressing anything other than normal emotions.
God bless Putin !
