The government of the southern Russian Voronezh region urged residents to avoid the M-4 north-south motorway connecting Moscow to southern regions because a military convoy was on the move there, after the leader of the Wagner private militia suggested that he planned to oust Russia's military leadership.

The government said on its Telegram channel that the situation was under control and that measures were being taken to ensure public safety.

Prigozhin is competent. Not bad for a chef. Now he may be the next Tsar of Russia.

From the cinema masterpiece, Doctor Zhivago:
Q: "This Lenin: will he be the new czar then?"

A: "Listen daddy -- no more czars, no more masters; only workers in a workers' state! How about that?"

Here’s hoping they tracked down that little son of a bitch and string him up high from the Spassky gate clocktower for all of mother Russia to see for his ill-advised invasion of Ukraine and him and Shoigu and Gerasimov subjecting his army to such a humiliating defeat

“I wonder how many Russian soldiers will just join the Wagner soldiers?”
Or how many conscripts will simply desert?

Reminiscent of when Carthage called their mercenaries home then told them they weren’t getting paid.

Some Russian MOD air assets seem to be involved. But Wagner brought along mobile AD systems, and have shot down some helicopters and reportedly an AN-24 transport so far.

Reportedly an air strike on the Wagner column near Voronezh

The abuse on this board in support of what Putin has been doing caused me to wonder who on earth posts here these days. I don’t visit FR so much anymore. Anyway, good luck to all peaceful and normal Russians who just want to live their lives without war and destruction, and a pox on Vlad Putin.

It is believed Ptig deliberately did this on a Friday night when most sane govt. workers get blind drunk. Now on Saterday they are hung over; called to work unexpectedly, tired and miserable. With Wagner at the last bridge before entering the Moscow area, they are in poor shape to plan and do anything effective to stop them.

Wagner mercenaries enter Lipetsk region en route to Moscow

The governor of Russia’s Lipetsk province said Saturday afternoon that Wagner Group mercenaries had entered the region, some 400 kilometres (250 miles) from Moscow. Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Wagner mercenaries of “treason” in a live address to the nation after the group’s chief Yevgeny Prigozhin called for an armed uprising to oust the defense minister on Friday.

The most important thing for Ukraine and Ukrainins right now is to expel all the russians for their lands!

May it be so!

Well, here is an unexpected development?

I have just finished reading the france24 link in comment #52. This link is a running list of developments in this crisis showing hour and minute of each event (I think they said at Greenich Mean Time + 2 hours, I will now copy the last 2 announcements for this Saturday:

“7:44pm: Prigozhin says Wagner fighters will return to base, so to not ‘spill Russian blood’
Wagner Group fighters who surged most of the way to Moscow have agreed to turn back to avoid bloodshed, their leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Saturday, in a de-escalation of what had become a major challenge to President Vladimir Putin’s grip on power.
The Wagner Group fighters were already most of the way to the Moscow, having captured the city of Rostov-on-Don and set off on a 1,100 kilometre race to the capital.

In an audio message, Prigozhin said the fighters would return to base because of the risk of blood being spilled.
‘We are turning our columns around and going back to field camps,’ Prigozhin announced. He said he understood the importance of the moment and did not want to ‘spill Russian blood’.
Prigozhin also said that Wagner fighters had advanced to within 200 kilometres of Moscow.
Earlier, he said his men were on a ‘march for justice’ to remove corrupt and incompetent Russian military commanders.”

“7:25pm: Belarus says Wagner chief agrees to halt fighters’ movements in Russia
The office of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said on Saturday that he had brokered a deal with Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin who agreed to halt the further movement of the group’s fighters across Russia.
The announcement was carried on the official Telegram channel of the Belarusian presidency.

So now comes the big question. Has Prigozhin changed his mind or is this the next step for some plan or deal he has worked out with Putin or Ukraine? I am sure many of us were expecting him to march or fight his way into Moscow, I guess some of us can now make up the sleep we lost last night.

Thank you, I like historical novels I’ll look that one up. Colleen McCullough’s Ceasar series and Lindsey Davis’s mysteries are some favorites.

Gee, it was only 12 hour drive from Rostov on Don to Moscow. Ya think the Wagner forces, if this were a real coup, would be announcing a march on Moscow from that distancing knowing the Russian air force would destroy them?

It's more ridiculous, neocon bullsh$t.

This was never a coup attempt. It's far more likely to have been psych op that fooled the morons running this war in the Biden regime.
