On Thursday’s broadcast of NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass defended the city codifying its sanctuary city status and acknowledged that being a sanctuary city will spend city resources on migrants and also said that they can’t handle any more buses of migrants sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) or any other Republican officials because “we are in the middle of a crisis where we are not able to provide housing for Angelenos” and more buses “would exacerbate that crisis.”
Bass said that she was surprised Los Angeles hadn’t officially codified its sanctuary city status, because “from my point of view, L.A. had been a sanctuary city from years ago. I did not realize it hadn’t been codified into law. The primary reason for that is to protect immigrants, because we don’t want the Los Angeles Police Department essentially doing the work of ICE, of immigration. Undocumented immigrants are vulnerable. And if they feel like they can’t report a crime, they can’t call public officials or they might be deported, then that compromises the safety of all Angelenos.

Hey Texas ….. send more, more and more! Use the commie’s own trick on them, bankrupt the dump!
Hypocrite!
Another potential “reparations” recipient who is in over her head. She can use her “reparations” check to provide for the freeloading miggy RAT banana boater voters.
Poor thing......sucks being you.. :)
I am just amazed how unaware these people truly are. They claim to be ‘overrun’, but they haven’t even received a single day’s worth of immigrants that are flooding into Texas.
Texas, NM, AZ, and Southern CA are being overrun.
With the 6+ million that have come across our border, NYC will not have taken their share (3% of population) until they take in over 200k. And they are complaining about 60k????
Blah, blah, blah. Basically, send me more Xiden Bucks.
Sounds like a litany of reasons for not being a sanctuary city. But, you people in SF put her in office, so I guess that’s what you want. I was there 30 years ago and loved the city. Went back two years ago and saw people camped out a block from the wharf, feces on the streets, people passed out in doorways, and used needles in the street gutters. I’ll never go back and would encourage everyone to do the same.
Eat it, commie bi*ch.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass can live in a tent on the street while the illegal alien invaders she welcomed in live in her house.
Hey, maybe if we close the border the buses will stop.
We are a sanctuary city, but only symbolically.
What they have there is a perfect illustration of leftist unwritten rule one: Symbolism over substance.
They have the patented ‘Excrement Touch’. Everything they touch turns to...well...the Biden family.
The left is simply pissed off that some states are shifting these dem voters from still nominally Red states to solid Blue state, thereby short circuiting their ultimate goal.
You don’t have to absorb the busses, its the people in them....
We are a santuary city but we just can’t accept immigrants.
Put the oxygen mask on yourself first, then the children. The child with a mask wont know what to do to help you passed out in your seat.
It’s time to ramp up some education on the U.S. Constitution. No where in the U.S. Constitution does the power exist to bailout cities, states, businesses or people. You can’t derive it from the welfare clause. It specifically refers to the United States, as in the welfare of the union of states. The 10th Amendment does not contradict the welfare clause. It clearly delegates powers.
The misinterpretation of the welfare clause has created $32+ trillion in debt (yes, it broke 32 trillion the other day), usurped the power of the states and eliminated personal freedom.
Instead of pressuring Abbott try some work on that White House crowd directing Biden.
“...from my point of view, L.A. had been a sanctuary city from years ago.”
Good. Then you should not only willing accept as many illegal invader buses as possible but call for many more.
They can add to the massive homeless population in LA and you can be a hero by saving them all.
BTW, how many refugees and homeless are in YOUR neighborhood, your honor?
