OceanGate CEO seen on 2021 video admitting 'I’ve broken some rules' to build doomed Titan submersible

OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, one of five passengers killed on a fatal mission to the Titanic wreckage this week, once admitted on camera to "breaking some rules" to build the tourist submersible.

In comments to Mexican travel vlogger Alan Estrada in 2021, Rush evoked General MacArthur saying, "You’re remembered for the rules you break."

"I’ve broken some rules to make this. I think I’ve broken them with logic and good engineering behind me," Rush said.

He conceded that deep-sea submersibles "as a rule" should not be made with carbon fiber and titanium, but he did anyway.

Probably that carbon shell was going to fail after so many deep dives.

Bloodthirsty sharks with law degrees are circling the wreckage at this very minute.

I wonder what sort of inspections and maintenance were performed between dives.

I wonder who will investigate OceanGate? Navy, Coast Guard, NOAA, NTSB, or FTC? Some agency I’ve missed? All of the above?

"Another old clip of Rush has emerged, showing him explaining that he preferred not to hire "50-year-old White guys" with military experience to pilot his company’s vessels."

"Go woke go broke" proven again because needless to say whatever company this doofus was running will be sued into oblivion

I was taken aback when I read that it was made of carbon fiber..

You could make a spacecraft using carbon fiber and it would be quite robust but the environment at 2.5mi depth is a lot more hostile than the vacuum of space. spaceships are easy, submarines are hard.

The lunar lander’s thin metal skin was so weak you could jab a pencil through it... like a soda can.

Who are they going to sue?

They could sue the company Ocean Gate. However, the French guy was an employee, but the tourists were billionaire. Not sure if their heirs would care about some settlement.

The company is probably going under anyway, as who would want to go on their trips.

Someone else may try this, but with a much better designed sub.

Rush said he didn’t hire people with experience because they would tell him he was crazy. lol.

If the full-trip ticket price was $250,000, the families should sue for $125,000 because the passengers got only half a trip.

There are no deep pockets.

Maybe their families can get a refund for the fare.
