San Francisco Mayor London Breed lashes out at GMA for saying it was 'too dangerous' to film in city's downtown and claims they are 'hampering' efforts to bounce back

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has lashed out at Good Morning America for saying it was 'too dangerous' to film in the city's downtown, claiming it is 'hampering' efforts to bounce back from the pandemic.

ABC's chief national news correspondent Matt Gutman told viewers Wednesday he had been advised against appearing live from Union Square or the now-closed Westfield Mall for a segment on the spate of stores fleeing the crime-ridden city.

'It is worth mentioning that we are not at Union Square or the Westfield Mall this morning because we have been advised that it's simply too dangerous to be there at this hour,' he told viewers.

But in a statement to the San Francisco Gate on Friday, the mayor's office seemed to deny that the area is dangerous — suggesting instead that major retailers are fleeing the city in droves due to a lack of customers as more people work from home.

'Sadly some of the news coverage conflate the reasons or do not provide the full picture of why big retailers and other businesses in San Francisco are deciding to leave or transfer ownership of their operations,' the mayor's office said.

'Lacking foot traffic in our downtown areas as a result of work-from-home habits, as well as challenges stemming from shifting shopping trends that have persisted for years were exacerbated by the pandemic.'

It is an interesting bit of history that San Francisco was the location of two of the most famous examples of vigilantism in US history, 1851 and 1856. It might happen again.

Maybe Her Honor the Mayor should put up or shut up - say walk one lap around the outside of the mall or a few blocks in some of the questionable areas without her security detail. She can even do it early afternoon in bright sunlight - no need to risk the trip at night and then she can let us know how safe it was.

...”Full Picture” is no police and grocery carts filled to the brim in broad daylight from looters. Frankly, GMA helped San Fran get to this. And gleefully.

Mayor Breed ought to walk around downtown SF without any armed security. Then and only then will the mayor get a real feel on what is happening in the city. Its understandable and appropriate for decent, rational people to avoid Democratic run urban America.

You have a real problem if GMA won’t come to your city because liberal policies have made it unsafe to be there.

Misdirected anger. Mayor, you and your ilk must pull your heads out of fantasyland and look at yourselves. There you will find the problem.

I'm shocked that GBA did some actual reporting.

So typical of a democrat — create a problem with your policies, but then blame everyone else when you can’t solve them because you won’t do what is necessary — change the policies.

LOL, a liberal big city mayor, fighting with liberal media reporting on what’s going on in her city. LOL.

That's something I've always said. Walk the length of Market Street from Civic Center, to the Ferry Building at the wharf. By herself, without security assistance. I have done it, and it is scary. And this was a decade ago, before it was overrun with bums laying about and criminals wandering around. These days, the street is near empty of "normal" people such as customers and tourists, making one a target for unscrupulous fiends.

Camera crews have been attacked at other tourist spots in San Francisco. Far more dangerous on Market Street where Westfield Mall, Civic Center, and Powell Street cable car connections to Union Square are located.

Of course. Democrats expect the media to be 100% on their side and hate it when they can’t control it.

“...will not unless the “progressives” are run out of town.”

Actually, there’s no going back without a complete reset. That’s because the various governments at all levels have set up nongovernmental organizations that have the right to collect taxes and create and enforce rules and regulations that have the force of law. Those organizations are not elected and will continue in power even if you elected a full slate of genuine conservatives in the actual government. The problems are systemic and structural. Whoever designed this was an evil genius.

Bounce back?

LOL - hellholes don’t ‘bounce back’...

They might claw their way back or fight their way back - but no, they don’t ‘bounce’ back.

Nothing in a hellhole is light or breezy or easy. That’s why it’s a hellhole. Democrats make ‘em - soulless, dead, dark and depressing.
