More than 2,600 residents from Homer to Nome will receive high speed internet access after the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced $82 million in grants for Alaska.
The investment comes as a result of the Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, according to a USDA release.
“USDA Rural Development is working alongside Tribes, municipalities, and telecommunication companies to connect remote and rural communities to high-speed internet as quickly as we can,” USDA Alaska Director Julia Hnilicka said in the release. “I am deeply proud of the partnerships created through this incredible opportunity and humbled by the passion Alaskans have for working together towards a common goal.”
The $88 million will be used to fund three separate broadband internet projects.

“Yep, a $10,000 hammer.”
How about $75k!
In Alaska:
Matanuska Telecom Association Inc will use a $12,620,357 grant from Rural Development to deploy a fiber-to-thepremises network to provide high-speed internet. This network will benefit 144 people, 14 businesses and one educational facility in the Kenai Peninsula Borough
So $82 Million to provide wifi to 2600 people????
Totalitarians want ALL the population to have internet access and wifi so that everyone’s location is always known and propaganda can be delivered universally. Once total internet coverage is compete Digital money can be forced onto the people and control is total, down to how many times you may flush the toilet in a day.
They are just pushing in our faces, laughing at our outrage, and daring anyone to do anything about it.
Some politicians and their freidns are raking in the windfall.
Correct FRiend. But Musk is persona non grata for the pinkos in charge. So no dice. Politicians will reward the ones they currently like instead and we all get poorer.
I watched a ‘Dirty Jobs’ tv show where the host was with a crew that were dropped off on a snow covered mountaintop in Alaska to do some repairs/upgrades to a antenna. First they had to dig down 8 feet thru snow to the door of the shack where the telecommunications equipment was. Inside was also sleeping cold weather gear and supplies in case the weather changed as it does quickly and they could not be flown out.
Satellite would be the best as they cannot string wire easily due to the mountains and weather.
